So, here is a thread for (numerous) people who were longing for some food for thought.
What do you think about Huntington's theory of clash between civilizations.
Here is an article summarizing it :
http://www.alamut.com/subj/economics/misc/clash.html
Personally, I think his ideas are bullshit. I think he should stop playing video games, life is much more complicated. Personally, I belong to at least three of the civilizations he mentions.
It is clear that the way you separate people is politically and ideologically motivated, therefore there is nothing scientific in his approach.
[edit] I changed the title in order to make the thread more attractive to the forum's new population.

I would add that his prose is very similar to Mein Kampf.

"in the Balkans this line, of course, coincides with the historic boundary between the Hapsburg and Ottoman empires. The peoples to the north and west of this line are Protestant or Catholic; they shared the common experiences of European history--feudalism, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment, the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution; they are generally economically better off than the peoples to the east; and they may now look forward to increasing involvement in a common European economy and to the consolidation of democratic political systems. The peoples to the east and south of this line are Orthodox or Muslim; they historically belonged to the Ottoman or Tsarist empires and were only lightly touched by the shaping events in the rest of Europe; they are generally less advanced economically; they seem much less likely to develop stable democratic political systems."
that's nice. he completely ignores greece as an example of a stable democratic system and a wealthy country. not as wealthy as germany maybe but wealthier than portugal or ireland which are examples of modern western countries with his definition of western world.

Nice ploy to get more views, Monsieur.
I didn't read the article, but it sounds rather oversimplified to me.
