I'll be at both shows. I think it'd be cool to meet other Pixies/Frank fans.

I coulda won 4 tix for $1.98 off Ebay but my dialup connection suddenly slowed down and the auction ended without any winners. Hopefully all the people holding extras will take the trouble to head down there. I can only spend $5-10 per show this time. |

Um i went to early show yesterday which was the friday show and it fucking kicked ass! I was sort of scared because i read in an article that they were going to play b-sides and rarities on the early show and their hits in the other but it turned out that they played their hits in the early show i dont know about the late show. If my calculations are correct they played about 22 songs Heres what i remember from show. where is my mind vamos bone machine Dead La La Love You River Euphrates In Heaven Isla de Encanta No. 13 Baby Hey Velouria Nimrod’s Son Where is my Mind Broken Face Bone Machine Here Comes Your Man Monkey Gone to Heaven Debaser Gigantic Tame planet if sound subbacultcha and some others songs. oh the list is not in order but it was fucking awsome.

Way way way cool show...the best of the three I saw this (last) week. How can you go wrong when you open a show with Is She Weird and encore with Allison? Dancing the Manta Ray, Head On, and Santo (just kidding! Got you all again! hee hee!)...who could ask for more?
Kim was wearing a blue sweat-shirt, black jeans, and white Converse All-Stars. She's just cute as a button! Dave was decked out in a black suit (!) sans tie, but displaying a rather swank set of medallions thru his buttoned-downed white dress shirt. Joey was ever-so-suave in jeans, boots, and a brown cotton long-sleeve button-up shirt. And Mr. Man himself was looking like he was dressed-to-impress in black slacks and black dress shirt. Unlike the Thursday show, Frank pretty much stuck to the telecaster. He played accoustic only once, and forgive me because I can't remember which song it was. Usually he pulls the acoustic out (and it's the same one he used with the Catholics...the one with the hole in it!) for Vamos, Where is my Mind, Holiday Song, and Nimrod's Son. He played electric on these this night. Very cool. Other songs were In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)(Which was funny because Kim announced it was a cover, but she didn't know who had originally done it...Frank explained "it was by Ivers", which seemed just to further confuse Kim)...U-Mass,Into the White,Gigantic, Debaser, Alec Eiffel,Tame, Monkey, Gouge Away, Wave of Mutilation original and surf, I Bleed, Winterlong, Crackity Jones, Mr. Grieves, Bone Machine, Caribou, Stormy Weather (which I really don't like, but live it rocks!) Blown Away, and a couple others that presently escape me. Oh! This guy jumped on stage during U-Mass (I think...someone correct me if I'm wrong) and performed a perfectly graceful stage dive (after circling around a slightly wary Black Francis) only to land square on the floor and not into the loving arms of a caring audience. Quite funny. I think he was okay, and I was slightly horrified he was gonna land on me! All I was thinking was, "I'm too old for this shit!". He kinda looked like Napoleon Dynamite. They executed a slicing show of energy and excellence. A total delight!
By the way...a shout out to MikeW who made it possible for me to see the show. He had to work, so he couldn't go, and was kind enough to let me take his place. A total cool cat! Thanks again man!

Yeah! Napoleon landed about 5 feet to my left. Where were you standing? I was near the stage and closer to Kim's area. I was wearing a carrot thing with a big curl instead of a bowl. Oh wait. That was what I decided not to wear. I was just wearing jeans and a black short sleeve shirt.

We did get backstage passes to the after-party! I just didn't wanna mention it because I felt funny.
Okay. Here's my little story for y'all.
After the show, about 35 people including myself went down into the bowels of the theater into a small green-room of sorts. It looked like a crappy little living room with some chairs and couches, bad paintings and a little table with beers and sodas and snacks. I sat there in total surreal denial...nervous and totally excited altogether. The dude I went along to the show with (and his bro and his girlfriend) was acquaintances with the band, and introduced me to them. I have met Kim, Dave, and Charles in the past...of course they wouldn't remember me and I wasn't going to try to refresh their memories. I was totally stoked to meet Joey. He's a very cool, low-key chap...and a lot taller than I imagined. Most of the people milling around seemed like very close friends or family members even, so I kinda just played wallflower and basked in the glory of being in the same small room with the Pixies...I was totally the luckiest fan of the night! As I drove home I was kicking myself for being a pussy and not exerting myself into conversation, but when I awoke the next morning I felt I had done right by being respectful and keeping it to handshakes and "pleasure to meet you"'s. In fact, I was so introverted I probably came off disinterested. But inside I was firecrackers! All in all, a wonderful and strange experience.

i put up pix, guys...first link is the second 1/2 of the first show.
second link is the late show.
http://homepage.mac.com/tobybrown/PhotoAlbum17.html http://homepage.mac.com/tobybrown/PhotoAlbum18.html
for some reason, the pix look crappier than they do on my machine natively...I'll have to mess around with them to find a fix. either that or quit drinkin' so many caffeinated beverages so's i don't shake so damned much.
i'll post my thoughts on the gigs a lil' later this evenin...SO very cool abt. TM getting backstage, tho. far out! |
