I thought it was those guys in the desert always demanding "backsheesh" for staying awake flapping fronds while you sleep.

The eyeliner is like his way of being more theatrical, in a subtle way!

Okay, just one more question about the eyeliner. It recently occurred to me that the Honeycomb session musicians may not have seen FB in his new eyeliner get-up and may be surprised to see it on The Man.
How do you think they would handle seeing FB in makeup if he gets them together for a Honeycomb album tour?
If frnk blck isn't answering, maybe Jon Tiven can chime in.
I'm just sayin...

Hey FranknWeezer, check it out:

The Man and Garrett CoffeeCan, October 6, 2004
As we all know the Pixies were playing at the Ryman and Frank was recording the The Sicilian/Nashville 2

Now, I don't know much about eyeliner, but I bet it was still on The Man's eyes when he left the Ryman after the show and went back to Cowboy Jack Clement's studio to record "The Sicilian / Nashville 2". As you recall from Sir Jon Tiven's previous posts, they pulled a couple of allnighters recording said album October 6th through October 8th. And, some of the same musicians from Honeycomb were at this session, along with the new ones that were needed because most of the Honeycomb musicians were otherwise occupied/hired for a project at Dan Penn's studio (the 'Comb"), and I'm betting some of this eyeliner was still on Frank's eyes and everybody saw it.

By the way I've stated here before my theory as to what is in The Man's two (you only see one in the picture) leather briefcases. Those be The Charts worked up by Lyle, et al, for the 2nd Nashville Album.

Frank looks hot in black eyeliner! OMINACC I think it looks really hot with his glasses. Frank would looks hot with out eyeliner too.

ya know what. I think I traced back this eyeliner making men look hot thing. i was in the record store and on the 99 cent bin was a photo with Adam Ant. I think my thing for eyeliner goes back to that.

Ok... and to respond to previous questions... I do think some men look hot in more makeup... they can't always pull it of...I have done makeup for a lot of men... it was more of a subtle natural look mostly to hide acne and stuff... but doing people's makeup, especially men's is so much fun.

and some men look really good in kilts. (I saw these industrial/goth kilt booth at a fair... tried to get mr. daisy to get one to show of his nice legs, but he wouldn't go for it. )

were these earrings, or did you safety pin a spider through your cheek, or was your make-up put on like a spider web?

no it was actually pretty cute...

I just drew it on the corner of the eye kinda like a cat eye or a v... and then drew backward C's )))) like that progressively bigger and then filled it in with a smaller v in the middle...

then i drew a little dangling "thread" and a cute little spider hanging off it. lol

Sounds very cool!

way back in the day, when earrings weren't common, and I was 14, I got 2 older girls to pierce my ear, or rather they convinced me. It looked really extreme. I got basically two questions from people. One, "What are you queer boy?" and two, "What are you a dope-smoker boy?" I answered no to One and yes to two. I dug the attention and the shock value. It was great. My parents put up with it until I got caught raisin a little hell and they made me take it out.

Ha ha ha. Whereas now I get dismayed looks from the other moms when I wear in my ears my circa 1979 safety pins. They've got their sensible pearl earrlings and LL Bean pastels on
and I'm in jeans and a Ramones T-shirt and shitkicker boots.

OMIACC, I'm just jealous you and your son got to meet w/ FB at the Ryman and I didn't. I've talked to him at length before, once in Oxford, MS in January 1999 and again in New Orleans in March 2003, so I guess my 15 minutes are up. IMO, it was better talking to him back in the solo days, when he'd faded out of the limelight for awhile. Now, since he's doing his "Black Francis", it seems like the Pixies fans are all over him. No matter what, it's cool to see him doing well.

[off-topic]

Hey FranknWeezer, are you coming up for Frank's Honeycomb show Sept. 10th, 12:30 a.m. at the Cannery Ballroom here in Guitar Town?

By the way, great picture of you and The Man in your profile here at fb.net. So, how did that come about, was that picture from one of your encounters with our Supreme Sovereign in Oxford or New Orleans?

lol OMIACC and Kathryn... you're sending me down memory lane.

OMINACC I double pierced my ears and I would cut i think it was the left side of my hair underneath so short it looked shaved.

i was thinking about it today how i wish i didn't give my old punk rock clothing away... like the thrift shop dresses, skirts and sweaters. there was also a cool shop with a designer who make and silk screened her own clothes... and one of my faves had rats on it and it said i hate rats. i also got two other dresses from her that had daisys sewn on or silk sceened on.

I still have at my parent's house my steel toe patent leather combat boots... i can't remember how many holes... but it came up a good four inches above my ankle. that was before it was easy to get docs.

and kathryn... safety pins... like i remeber covering a front jean jacket with those! man safety pins rule!!!

when i went to college... i traded those clothes for somewhat more trendier clothes... at that point i was so sick of em... but i wish i would have kept more. oh well!

I think the eyeliner is kinda cool, as long as frnk doesn't get one of those tear tattoos at the corner of his eye. Those things always unnerve me when I see them.

HAHAHA I think you're probably right Dave. If that's the case, then it will take one pretty mean SOB to get Frank to get a tear tattoo. I mean just look at him. He's probably all muscle under that shirt.

OMIACC,
Tha picture is from (and I'll never forget it) Jan 29, 1999 in front of Proud Larry's on the Square in Oxford, MS. I was in my senior year at Ole Miss, and I didn't know a soul in town who cared that The Baldheaded Buddah of Rock was coming to town. I had one of my friends go with me (he was slightly interested b/c he'd heard of the Pixies), and we got there way early. Early enough to see FB and the cath's come in and unload their own gear in t-shirts and work gloves. I waited until he was finished and pulled FB over to the side. The guy amazingly talked to me for about 20 minutes. It was unreal. Talked about my favorite songs, how I saw his video for Los Angeles on Beavis and Butthead and thought the hovercraft was cool, so I bought his self titled album, and a bunch of other stuff. Extremely small venue, but I was standing right under his mic, 3 ft away, and the stage was only 3 ft. off the ground where the audience stood. They played mostly FB&C's self titled stuff, but he stopped and in the middle of the set told a story about how he just met his #1 fan Ryan (me) and how he was about to play my favorite song (at the time), which was Superabound. I'd given my audio cassette minirecorder to the sound guy b/c he said he could get the show great from where he was standing. Would you believe that to save me room on the tape, he cuts the recorder off just after FB says, "I, uh met a guy, this afternoon as we were loading in our stuff, and..." I coulda killed the guy once I got home and found out.
Anyway, he signed my Teenager insert, my COR poster (the insert folded out), and I got a big poster from the show framed (the FB&C's album soldiers w/ spears thing) and bought a shirt from that tour (tan FBC's one I wore to NO and the Ryman since then). Also talked to FB a little after the show.
I know I'm leaving a bunch of stuff out since it's been so long, but the experience was unreal. There was nobody else there looking to talk to him but me, so I had his full attention, and he delivered.
The meeting after the House of Blues show in NO was very short. He got off his big tour bus and signed the pic in my profile and I talked to him for a few seconds before he had to walk away...and at the Ryman I didn't see him at all before or after the show.
To answer your question, I won't be making any Nashville shows b/c my brother who lived there just moved to NY, and I live in Mississippi.
Sorry for the long diatribe, but you got me fired up thinking about 1.29.99.
Over and out,
-FranknWeezer

Damn, boy, what Daisy Girl said FranknWeezer.

That's a helluva encounter with our Supreme Sovereign you had on January 29, 1999. I bet your life hasn't been the same since then, huh! Just another example of how The Man is the real deal, delivering the goods, paying his dues, and now, finally cashing in financially.

Thanks alot for sharing that incredible experience.
