I honestly don't like bread particularly the taste and texture of white bread. I'll eat the odd bit of rye bread and there are times when I do eat bread - it's just that I don't like it. I'd far rather just have the meatballs than a meatball sandwich. In fact sandwiches themselves are probably the reason I don't really like bread.

I think more restaurants should serve bread with meals. At so many places, it's all potatoes, potatoes, potatoes. And those are just as full of starch, but don't taste as good.

I'm honestly not a fan of chocolate ice cream, but enough people are that I think that would be a good marketing strategy.

A container for a sandwich, what kind of bread do they not have where you live?
A ham and cheese on rye without rye is just a ham sandwich!
What kind of Reuben would you eat? |

I am just...I'm sorry. I'm getting emotional. Never before has anybody expressed or shared... damn, where's a hanky? Never before has a living soul shared my bafflement at slapping two unnecessary pieces of bread around food and calling it a sandwich, when the contents are just fine by themselves. I'm too emotional to post.

Actually, it's not really a sandwich at all, is it?

Really? The Earl of Sandwich, French? I've never heard that.
It's a shame that kathryn and rosa have never had good bread. A shame. |

I have no idea what on earth a reuben may be (I was always under the impression they were a shitty emo band) and ham and cheese sandwich? Give me a slice of ham and a piece of cheese and I'm happy. Kathryn - I too thought I was alone - it's now as if there is hope.

BLACKADDER:Baldrick, go to the kitchen and make me something quick and simple to eat, would you? Two slices of bread with something in between. BALDRICK: What, like Gerald, Lord Sandwich, had the other day? BLACKADDER:Yes, a few rounds of Geralders.

So, the big debate here, based around sliced loaves, for purposes of sandwiches, toast and associated snacks:
Brown or white?

I'm not a fan of plain white bread (Wonder Bread style), although I do like white Italian bread pretty well. For sandwiches, my favorites are rye and oat.

"If the English claim to have invented the sandwich, the French disagree, saying that long before the word sandwich came into use, it was common for workers in the field and those going on a journey to take with them meat or fish between two slices of black bread. " from WHO COOKED THAT UP? by J.J. Schnebel (1999)
meanwhile, we all know that the sandwich was actually invented by native Americans, specifically the Navajo, who used to eat dried eagle and horse meat between bread made from corn meal and acorns..

this painting is an early artistic representation of the Indian "sandwich".. or, san choo, where the word sandwich comes from, which means "gift from god"..
the hands of the man and woman symbolize the slices of bread, and the light between them is a visual metaphor for the wonderful taste sensation created by the union of bread, meat and mayonnaise.
the painting is early 19th century navajo.. but it's based on religious iconography that stretches back to the very first recorded Navajo drawings, and early "san choo" forms of song and dance |

Actually, the concept of the "sandwich" was brought to Earth by ancient astronauts, along with the arts of pyramid-building and bowling.
