CD:UK......
supressed chortle...
I went to see them on the daisys tour, I thought it was everywhere but we are going back a few years here and I am getting old.
I thought Martha Wainright was another in a line of female artists trying so damned hard to be quirky and being annoying, bloody motherfucking asshole... just words she still yelped like an annoying little puppy and whined like alanis with laryngitis.
*I isn't so big on female vocalists as a rule though)
I hope that I will live to see you undress |

I like female vocalists, but I thought she was a bit bland. Good dinner party music, but then, so is Norah Jones or Dido. Or so I'm told.

they have to please the audience. there's always that latest fad band, whether they be good or bad, that get the limelight. then Jools drops in a little bit of class, like Frank, some quality stuff to educate the musically challenged. |

btw i am sharing a video of the performance on soulseek.
unlike the torrent, i can't gaurantee it will work, though there is a strong chance it will if you use windows media player. 114mb. give it a go if the torrent is not an option. might download that one myself and share that instead?
edit: the reason why it might not work is because the original encoded mpgs when you record with a hauppauge app are messed up and you have to correct them. i did all i could with the tools i had.

oh yeah, he sure did. never disappoints.
I only really caught hold of fb, what i did hear didn't keep me hooked makes me wonder how biased i really am to frank's music i seem to miss the appeal other bands have on the masses. sometimes i don't get it at all. |

I don't think the other bands put on a good performance at all, there's a lot of throw away indie knocking about at the moment (like the chiefs) which are good to bop along to at the union bar but I don't take wholly seriously. I was a bit disappointed with the eels performance though because I do really really like them, but I'd heard Mr E was starting to get cuckoo-er.
and I meant looking good in the hello there whats your name come sit by me mister man sense of the looking good... hehehe

btw, i noticed he sung "i learn today" at least i think so, haven't checked again. now, he may sing this in the recorded version in which case i'm stupid for not noticing, but otherwise that's pretty interesting. didn't he mention in an interview how it was "semi cryptic" or something. could be the real meaning to the chorus, and an indication as to his method of writing cryptic stuff (i.e. replacing rhyming words..)

....I still think Martha was great, although I heard the tracks a couple of times, the first time I didn't it was special at all. Hey have you seen Martha and Frank talking to eachother at a table at the end of the show, didn't Frank say something about her in an interview

Just shown this to my brother. like he says, the man's written hundreds of songs and still you can see how much he means every word he sings, the belief in his music is immense. God i love the music of Frank Black, my bro just filled me up with pride in the man, that's all. |

add me to your user list, my name on it is dghjkdyuuty yes, weird, but i couldn't be bothered coming up with a suitable name for it.
then right click me when i'm online and browse my files and you should see it there. double click to download. i'll try to leave soulseek connected as much as possible.

Hehe, Steve. Martha is no whore, she is the sister of Rufus and daughter of Loudon Wainwright and Kate McCarrigle. A family which has produced some good music.

Hey Jon, of all the people in the world you are the last that I expect to download Frank Black music! Haha, sorry, I don't mean that! But I must warn you, if you have any other FB music on your harddrive (like The siccilian), be sure you don't share that on soulseek too! Would be a funny mistake nontheless, an album accidentely leaked by it's own producer

I haven't used p2p before and by the looks of things I may not get there yet, but don't make fun of me just cause I'm a trogolodyte. Those of us born in the Fifties have a hard time getting used to this technology, and FYI I have NO MUSIC ON MY HARD DRIVE. So there's no risk of a leak.
I would appreciate some help with this, as I do want to view "I Burn Today" and I'm not getting anywhere by myself. If anyone has an alternate way without the soulseek engine, I'm willing to try that as well.
As long as I'm on here, I'm going to answer a question from the other thread! The song that took the longest to complete was probably HONEYCOMB, because it had the most complex chart, but it was the charting that took the longest, we cut it on the first take. None of them really took long, particularly by contemporary recording standards, because we didn't have to resort to pro-tools and we had excellent musicians who picked up every nuance.
Now somebody help me ronda!

i don't know another way for you to view this yet Jon. I can't download anything from Soulseek because of this mac, plus i'm confused by the whole soulseek/dimeadozen torrent thing anyway. Are they one in the same? Not sure.
i have a copy of Laters... on dvd format i'd be happy to mail to Nashville. But i'm sure the guys here can talk you through the whole torrent downloading step by step, which would be alot quicker than waiting for the postman. (EDIT; and as I type, MCA to the rescue)
I know this isn't much help, but this here is the BBC6 session thread of 'I Burn Today' and 'Song of the Shrimp' you can listen too if you haven't already. FB sounded just as good here as on Jools.

for those not familiar with p2p: soulseek is a p2p application. dimeadozen is a member only site that permits downloads by bitorent which is another p2p application. the file is the same but in 2 different "places" downloadable or in soulseek or by signing in the dimeadozen site (which apparently can't be done since they have their member list full for now) and using bittorent.

Thanks to all for trying to help me, but either my computer or myself is unable to make this happen. FBC, I would appreciate that DVD (of the whole show if possible)....
My mailing address is P.O. Box 158892, Nashville, Tenn. 37215 and the first three people to mail me DVDs get a free copy of the Ellis Hooks album BLACK MARKET! I like to think that many of you would do it out of good will alone, but I believe in the incentive program.
By the way, I hope the DVDs will be compatible with American players....anybody know if this is the case?
bye for now, Jon the computer whiz |
