Jools Holland is really cool, well, actually the man himself looks and talks a bit like Kermit but the show is awesome. Better than any musicshow that I know

That's pretty good stuff. The new series started yesterday, which I missed, so hopefully Mr B will be on in the next couple of weeks. That's really good news.

Jools Holland used to play keyboards in Squeeze, now he's probably the coolest music TV presenter in the UK. He's always had a really diverse and interesting policy to picking bands to play on his show (Later With Jools Holland), usually including some world music, or jazz, and some acoustic sets. Usually, the bands will play two or three songs, generally promoting the new record, sometimes throwing in a favourite.

And he sometimes accompanies guests on the piano. Would'nt it be cool if he played with Frank? Yes it would! |

Just been checking this out too. The Eels site does mention FB, but tv guides say no
quote: http://www.tvguideuk.co.uk
Later... with Jools Holland Fri 20 May, 23:35 - 00:40 65 mins In the second show of the new series of Later with Jools Holland, former Led Zeppelin front man Robert Plant and his band The Strange Sensation bring their blend of African new world music and rock to the Later... studio. As well as performing tracks from new album Mighty Re-arranger, there'll also be a rendition of When The Levee Breaks.
Athlete will be performing the singles from their massive hit album Tourist, Wires and Half Light, and Mark E Smith's The Fall, who've never appeared on Later, will be here to play a couple of tracks, including a cover of The Moves I Can Hear The Grass Grow. Also making their Later... debut are Brighton based The Go! Team, who have been described as sounding like Sonic Youth meeting the Jackson 5.
Jazz hero Mose Allison, who has proved to be an inspiration to a whole generation of artists, will be playing a couple of tracks at the piano. Winner at this year's Radio Three Awards for World Music, LHASA has taken the world music community by storm. Born of a Mexican father and American mother, Lhasa sings her haunting melodies in three languages, English, Spanish and French.
Also joining Jools to talk about the DVD release of the 1972 Ringo Starr film about T-Rex, Born To Boogie, will be Marc Bolan's son, Rolan Bolan and record producer and sound engineer on the film, Tony Visconti.

nothing for the 27th either
quote: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/pdfs/tv/week21/bbctvwk21_fri.pdf Later ...With Jools Holland 11.35pm-12.35am BBC TWO bbc.co.uk/later Jools Holland is joined in the studio by Kaiser Chiefs, John Legend and Martha Wainwright. The Kaiser Chiefs picked up the Phillip Hall Radar Award (for the “ones to watch”) at the 2005 NME awards and have had a great year so far. The band were the talk of Austin’s South By South West music festival and are set to play Glastonbury. Their debut album, Employment, came out in March and has already spawned the singles Oh My God, I Predict A Riot and, more recently, Every Day I Love You Less And Less. The hottest property on the nu soul wagon, John Legend grew up in Ohio where he began playing the piano and singing at just five years old. He worked on Lauryn Hill’s seminal Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill album, was signed by hip hop superstar Kanye West and released his first studio album Get Lifted earlier this year. Martha Wainwright comes from an incredibly musical background – daughter of Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III and sister of Rufus Wainwright. She released her eponymous debut solo album last month to huge critical acclaim, with critics praising her “huge and intoxicating voice” and cementing her place as “one of most important stars-in-waiting of the music world”.
looks like it's not happening then

ok, I'm really confused
June 3. Nothing

New Order, one of the most influential and pioneering bands to come out of the Eighties, released their new album Waiting For The Siren Call in March. Rufus Wainwright burst onto the music scene in 1998 with his self-titled debut album, blending theatrical tones with his folk upbringing. After his highly acclaimed third album Want One he recently released the follow up, Want Two,revealing a “dark and haunting” side to his music. Merseyside sextet The Coral released their eponymous debut album in 2002 for which they received an NME Award and a Mercury Music Prize nomination. They have just released The Invisible Invasion, which according to critics is their most relaxed and mature album to date.
I can't even find anything for that combination of people!

It would be wonderful to see him on the show. I don't know how long a series of 'Later...' lasts, but there seem to be a couple each year.
Met Jools a couple of months ago, he came to the restaurant that I work in! He's a real showman. |

The Robert Plant / The Fall show showing this Friday 20th May was recorded on the 3rd May according to the Fall web site. So if the show is being recorded this week then it should show first or second week in June. The Eels shows in the UK are only scheduled from 19th May to 23rd May.
As it appears Frank is in London this week I am still hoping he might do solo show but I cannot see anything in the listings |

As fbc pointed out in the BBC 6 Music Session thread, he'll be in the country for that, so I'm sure he's over to appear on JH. Yay! |

Check it; from the "Radio Times" site:
"Later with Jools Holland 11:35pm - 12:40am BBC2 VIDEO Plus+: 445737 Subtitled, Widescreen Jools introduces a diverse mix of new musical talent and established artists. Joining Jools are Celtic soul legend Van Morrison, indie hitmakers the Kaiser Chiefs, American oddballs the Eels, new R&B singer John Legend, plus Martha Wainwright and Frank Black".
So there! |

That's cool, Van the Man and t' Chiefs as well.
Fun fact of the day: The Fall (appearing for the first time on the show this week) apparently have a clause in their contract that if they ever appear on Later..., Jools Holland is in no way allowed to play boogie-woogie piano over any of their tracks. Thats brilliant, you've got to love Mark E Smith.

I only caught the end, but it seems he wasn't on. However, Jools mentioned that Van Morrison will be on next week, and that Radio Times listing from darragh mentions him, so I guess Frank will be on next week too...

Wow Thanks FBC,
but the things is, I can see Jools Holland myself, just have to stay up one hour longer. It's on BBC2 right? That's where I saw it on New Years Eve this year. We have BBC1 and BBC2 on cable here
Needless to say: thanks a lot for the offer

Yeah, I remember watching BBC over in Holland. It's great, because you guys use subtitling rather than dubbing, for films, etc! |

yes, we're one of those cool Europeans, unlike the French and the German. But say what you will about them, they at least have their own identity and culture plus they were against Iraque War!
Besides the fact that the dutch goverment and culture is in the ass of the US goverment and culture it's pretty cool that we don't dub!
For instance, Star Wars, we just look the english version, Dart Vader has a creepy voice, but when you switch to the French overdubbing he's so stupid. I wonder how French people can even look at that movie with French speaking actors.

I think they showed a clip of Darth Vader dubbed in German on TV years ago. Things like that are always a hoot!! Unfortunately, The original trilogy DVD only has English language! ;) |
