It's almost hard not to laugh. Almost.

Montreal singer Marcil struggles performing U.S. anthem at exhibition hockey game Canadian Press
Sunday, April 24, 2005 QUEBEC (CP) - Friday night was certainly one to forget for Caroline Marcil of Montreal.
The singer was slated to perform the national anthems prior to the United States' 5-4 exhibition hockey win over Canada. However, she sang neither after twice failing to complete the Star Spangled Banner when she seemingly forgot the words.
After apologizing to the crowd, Marcil left the ice and headed back towards the dressing room - to a smattering of boos from the Quebec Coliseum crowd of 7,166 - presumably to get the words.
But when the young woman returned to the ice, the carpet slipped out from underneath her, causing Marcil to fall hard. After lying motionless on the ice for a few seconds, she left on her own and television replays showed a despondent Marcil being consoled in the hallway adjacent to the ice surface.
The carpet came to rest at centre ice and American player Doug Weight and an unidentified teammate skated it back to the area where Marcil, the daughter of Rene Marcil, the past president of Hockey Quebec, was to perform. But by that time she had left the ice.
When Marcil left, the decision was made to proceed with the opening faceoff without the singing of either anthem.
Although he felt bad for Marcil, Canadian netminder Martin Brodeur couldn't help but chuckle about her struggles.
"You've got to give her credit, she came back twice and fell once," he said with a laugh. "It's definitely a different way to start a hockey game than we're used to.
"There was a little bit of humour involved. It was just too bad for her. I was just thinking that I hope she's not on Canadian Idol."
Canadian coach Marc Habscheid, on the other hand, felt nothing but sympathy for the young woman.
"We felt bad for her," he said. "It was just unfortunate."

That's the funniest thing i've read this morning, nice one. I actually laughed out loud.
"Unfortunate" my ass. "Stupid" more like. Hope daddy was proud. |

Good stuff. Reminds me of this mildly funny joke:
It is the Olympic men's figure skating. Out comes the Russian competitor, he skates around to some classical music in a slightly dull costume, performs some excellent leaps but without any great artistic feel for the music. The Judges' scores read: Britain 5.8; Russia 5.9; United States 5.5; Ireland 6.0
Next comes the American competitor in a sparkling stars and stripes costume, skating to some rock and roll music. He gets the crowd clapping, but is not technically as good as the Russian. He slightly misses landing a triple Salchow and loses the center during a spin. But, artistically, it is a more satisfying performance. The Judges' scores read: Britain 5.8; Russia 5.5; United States 5.9; Ireland 6.0
Finally out comes the Irish competitor wearing a tatty old donkey jacket, with his skates tied over his wellies. He reaches the ice, trips straight away and bangs his nose which starts bleeding. He tries to get up, staggers a few paces then slips again. He spends his entire 'routine' getting up then falling over again. Finally he crawls off the ice a tattered and bleeding mess. The Judges' scores read: Britain 0.0; Russia 0.0; United States 0.0; Ireland 6.0
The other 3 judges turn to the Irish judge and demand in unison, "How the hell can you give that mess 6.0?!" To which the Irish judge replies "You've gotta remember, it's damn slippery out there."

Yeah, I kind of envy her. I mean, really, when is she going to have a worse day in her life? For most of us, we live knowing it's still to come... :)

That's extremely unpleasant. It's easy to criticise her for forgetting the words, but maybe she was just really nervous. And falling too...pretty rough! |

Either way, that's funny, I busted a gut.

I watched this on the news yesterday. I really felt bad for her. Afterwards as an experiment I tried singing the star spangled banner....and lo and behold...I couldn't remember all the words either. What is it with that song? I know this isn't the first time I have heard of somebody forgetting the words in front of a crowd (anyone catch the clip of the Blazer game when coach Cheeks ended up standing by a young girl to help her with the words?)
Although....the fall is what really was insult to injury. |

I don't think I've ever known the words to it. But her wipeout on TOP of going for lyrics/forgetting the words was the clincher. Watched it in the pub with about 200 other people. It was weird for the whole place to kind of have a hushed silence and then crack up simultaneously.
