"You lot"? Sir Rock just wrote "you lot"? Aintchu American? What's with the English expression? I'm calling INS.
Sorry....
This sounds promising and exciting, kittie. Thanks for taking the initiave. I've recently read and enjoyed "Saturday" by Ian McEwan and "Villages" by John Updike; my favorite authors are A.S. Byatt, Margaret Atwood and Nabokov. I'd be into reading Douglas Coupland's "All families are psychotic," which I have not read, and I'm somewhat curious about Jonathan Safran Foer's new one, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close."
Just as importantly as what we do like is what we can't stand and I would like you to put me down as someone who hated "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" by Dave "Wonder Author" Eggers.

Iīd go for "Saturday" too, I havenīt read it and Iīm sure I can find it in a format other the yucky hardback in my local bookshop (whatīs the point in a book you canīt fold and cram in your back pocket?)
"Heart Of A Dog" by Mikhail Bulgakov also, itīs slim, quite freely available and the funniest book Iīve ever read. Maybe something by Murakami, whoīs one of my favourites along with Thomas Pynchon, Sams Lipsyte and Beckett, Burroughs, Auster, Rabelais and Kundera. "Slowness" by Kundera I just finished and rather enjoyed too. We could also do a shortstory along with each novel, seeing as we have folk like Raymond Carver, Flannery OīConnor and George Saunders to pick from. Basically Iīll read anything, provided I donīt see everyone reading it on the beach like I did the DaVinci Code last summer. Yay for Tre.

This is a good idea Tre. Name the novel and I'll start reading Nothing like staying in bed on a wintry Saturday reading a book.
I've just finished McEwan's Saturday, undecided still on what to pick up next. (Damn, I picked up two Will Self novels recently at a 2nd hand store after remembering him being discussed here. I hope it isn't too bad)
The Eggers Heartbraking Genius novel was pretty bad I thought.

The Kundera one is great Kathryn, I love how he has characters doing the messiest most awkward thigs and he makes it seem like ballet. I think Perfume is overrated, though his short stories are wonderful. Heīs got another one called The Pigeon, anyone read it? P.S. are we going for something no-one has read? Iīve read Fahrenheit 415, Cement Garden, Perfume and that Murakami is part one of two books, the other is Dance Dance Dance. The Edward Carey looks great.

I've read perfume also (i quite liked it if I remember rightly), I saw the pigeon on my trawl but haven't read it, (one called Mister Somner?) and a book of three stories by him but I went with perfume because I thought it was accesable.
I think it would be better to go with something no one has read, I liked the look of the Carey one as well (see Carolyn, I pay atention!), we'll see if there are any objections and if not roll with that...

I ordered it in a bookshop today and the guy said itīd be a month. Iīll try some of the secondhand bookshops as well though, Iīm really looking forward to reading it because Barcelona is full of those human statues and a few of my friends do it too. If I bought it over the net you know how long Iīd have to wait?

Yeah, I didn't really keep up with doing the first one. Probably my fault it fell to the wayside. But I would be interested in doing it again (for the first time!).
So, is Edward Carey the chosen book?

I'm not sure I think most internet places are quite quick, if you have real troubles though I could probably easily pick you up a copy and post it on?

The Edward Carey book looks a good choice. No local bookstore has it in stock so I ordered it from Amazon, 7 - 10 days for delivery.
