I went to fopp to buy some books for my train journey tomorrow. Took one look at the cd rack and walked back out. Too dangerous, I'll re-read something thats not packe already. Probably some Brautigan.

I've been re-reading the Discworld series, mostly in order, although that's not totally possible since I don't own all the books. I'm currently in the middle of:

My friends ditched me to go see the movie version tonight. Bastards.

If a picture is worth a thousand words I'll skip the novel and watch the movie, yes?

(or words to that effect.....)

"The Lost City of Z" by David Grann in the September 19 New Yorker. One of the best articles I've read in a long while.

I've found "Plato, no Prozac!" somewhere in my house. After reading two pages I presume this is going to be the biggest piece of shit I've read in years.

Because I'm poor and can't afford HBO, I was reading 'I, Claudius', which was beyond awesome. I'm gonna walk on down to the used book store today and pick up 'Claudius the God', the sequel. I hope its as good.

I saw Vonnegut on Bill Mahar the other week and he has a new one out, a collection of essays. If I remember correctly its called 'Man Without a Country'. I've really enjoyed his other essay collects, like palm sunday and fates worst than death, even though his stories do tend to get a bit repetitive. The man's a god; which i know is an ironical thing to say about a humanist. Or maybe not. I bet God's a humanist.

I've heard the sequel is quite bad, but go and read it by yourself.

Been looking for this for ages and found it in secondhand today.
Pink Floyd riffed on the cover (and the contents) with this record:

Ian McEwan is quite good. Atonement was rich and heady writing. His Saturday looms for me in the near future. I love leisurely finishing a book on a Sunday morning and then toying with what to read next. It's between The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood, Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson, or some Vonnegut-Breakfast of Champions.

Hey Jose, I'm reading Leckie's "Delivered From Evil: The Saga of World War II". It's a great read.

I've also just started "The Names" by Don DeLillo. I love his style.

well well. this is the first time i've read him. so far so good, i'd say. i read three joseph ellis books in a row. i really like his style.

basically, i'll be spending the next few months (year, probably) reading about 1800s america. great stuff: gold rush, texas, exploration (of all types of shit), and teddy fucking roosevelt. fascinating stuff, man.

and on my breaks at work: vonnegut, vonnegut, vonnegut (and trout).

I'm still reading Fight Club. So far, finding it fairly close to the film, give or take a couple of little bits.

BTW VoVat, I have all those Pratchett books, I hav'nt read them in years, though. I got his autograph at a convention before. He's doing a signing in Dublin soon, thinking of popping along to get a coupla of my old books signed.

I found "The Scarlet Letter" to be quite boring. Maybe that's what I get for reading it all in one night, though. I remember "Feathertop" as being a decent story, but that was a lot shorter.

I went to a Pratchett signing just a few weeks ago. He signed my Discworld Mapp with, "To Nathan, you are here."
