Mcil, this is the porn page. Photos can't be big enough as far as I'm concerned. And cruder the better.
Cheers for the eye candy. Your tele's got some serious character. I like!

check this bigsby out:

i don't want to know where the fretboards lead to.

Cheers fbc, I've only had it two years so it's hardly natural: more due to the work of sandpaper and/or wire cutters...

I miss having a sunburst guitar. The look is classic, on a superficial level, mind. I used to have a Les Paul one until my bro took it to pieces. If anyone knows where the freadboard and wiring went to, can you mail me please.

Sabre: HA! Check that out! I wonder how much that one would fetch today. I take it Leo Fender borowed the headstock design.

Been playing a Gibson LP Studio for around 10 years now, before that a Vantage VC20CE acoustic. Got myself a banged-up Squier Strat this weekend which, with some TLC, should be OK in a few weeks.

Pedal is an Ibanez Tubescreamer, all I really need... the amp does the rest (Marshall Valvestate VS80)

I have a 4 sting Jay Turser Vintage Series bass, pretty much a Fender Precision rip off. And a Traynor 30 watt guitar amp.
I think I may go buy a used electric guitar next then a bass amp

Okay, since I wrote this I have gotten a camera and a multi-effects pedal for my guitar

a friend of mine is making me something like a 70 watt bass amp.
It's gonna be pretty awesome!

Yeh man, more guitar love. Great pics, Anvil/Lester. What effect is that green pedal, anvil, it looks familiar?

Lester, you're nearly there, man. Purchase a drum machine and you could be the one and only one man Pixie tribute. I hope that amps turned up to 11. You're the same as me, sofa for guitar stand. Great stuff. And I f**kin' love this thread!

Hammerhands!! Where for art thou?

* Does the custom work out cheaper/more expensive than buying, say, a vintage '52 tele?
* 3 years in the making. Much longer to wait?
* Does it get delivered to you or do you have the pleasure of picking up the beaut from the custom shop?

I've got more, but just 3 for now.

Ok, I can go on!

I lost count on the cost after the first year or so, and about two years ago Fender came up with an American Deluxe Ash Telecaster®, that would have been the way to go, with a B-5 Bigsby. Don't use the B-16 Bigsby unless you have some kind of grudge against your tech, it's a bitch to fit, the neck angle has to change, holes covered or filled, possible change to pickup positions.

The story is, I saw the B-16N and I knew I had to have it. One day I was in my local Long and McQuade and they had a butterscotch Affinity Squier Tele, who could ask for anything more? It was about $225 Canadian, like $160 US at the time, and it had all the body hardware, just get a proper neck and pickups, voila! Expected price $286.30 US for the Warmoth neck, $100 cdn for the pickups, $135 US for the Bigsby, $50 cdn for tuners.

The tech who I usually take guitars to ordered a bunch of parts but they never came in. There was some sort of change to Fender's distribution and his affiliation with Fender.

After 18 months I gave the job and what I had accumulated to an acquaintance who is gaining a positive reputation for building and repairing. Plus he agreed to do it on the cheap!

Just a couple of weeks in he told me that the Squier body was not going to work for this project as it had a huge hole under the bridge plate that the Bigsby would not cover, so I ordered a Warmoth body and the hardware to fit ($390.55 US). I also changed my mind on the tuners (add $50 cdn). He agreed to exchange most of his labour for the Squier, it works out ok.

My new tech works for the Canada Revenue Agency (like IRS) and is busy the first 6 months of the year, and I may have angered him, so I am still waiting. There is a lot more to the job than I would have ever expected.

I decided there was enough Fender or Fender-licensed parts that it should be ok to call it a Telecaster. I did my best to make that headstock decal, I'm no artist, it's crooked and it cost a couple of weeks and I think $60. I had a dozen or so made but the tech was experimenting and having trouble so there are only one or two left.

BTW the B-16 is the model shown in the original Bigsby patent (170,109) and a few original Fenders are around.

This is the mother load of Bigsby equipped Teles.

[Message Relocated]

Just in my mind's eye! I'm sure I've gone on about it before, but since you asked!!!

Butterscotch, but it is not going to yellow the way I would like. The only holes drilled are the rhythm pickup and control cavity, the lead pickup is housed in the Bigsby B-16N.

My improved 4-way wiring and a Gretsch Space-Control Bridge with a custom base (not as shown).

4-way Tele Mod Switch (must have!), Grover Minis, Schaller Locks and custom headstock logo.

Lots of shiny nickel, chrome and black.

and how could I forget, Fender Vintage Noiseless Tele's (the ones they sold 3 years ago)

The price for the 'Affinity' sounds like a bargain. That's like, £80+. Your Warmouth neck is nearly double that =). You know it will all be worth it in the end. It'll be a one off, that's pretty damn cool in my eyes, and the first time you play it, wow. An experience to cherish. Hope we get to see some pics.

I've always wanted to customize one of my old strats. I also once considered replacing my single coil pick ups on the Jag with humbuckers, but I daren't touch it now, means too much to me to mess. But after seeing your post last night, I know I definately want a custom all of my own.

So for my future reference, use a B-16, you say? =P
Guitar Tech Eric needs a challenge!

That original Fender in your link is a work of art. A genuine reason for chopping down trees. I can't say I've ever seen a Bigsby owning a tele before, but your second link sure does make up for all those years of ignorance. And for your information, the tele logo is pure class. No artist my ass!

Snap! I bought mine used on eBay and it lasted a whole half an hour before the preamp crapped out and started get extremely noisy. Not pleased, apparently a common fault with the APXs... 2 repair jobs later and it still played up, so I had to get a new preamp system put in.

I rue the day, I really do..

Awful, just awful, my friend. But I love them still.

Somebody give me mine for free (long story..lots & lots of sex involved), but the plug-in jack is strangely missing(??).

I've got no idea whether the preamp would work or not, seeing as trying to plug in my cord is more-or-less simulated metal on wood dry-humping. Oh well, the guitar sounds wicked plasticky anyways...plus I think the strings are at least a decade old.

No, it really is missing. You can look inside and see that the wires running up to it were cut...so at some point it was physically removed for one reason or another...Repair would be my guess.
