I never went to a show, but I saw them on Austin city limits, and there were some weird vocal things they did that I didn't like. Specifically on "Debaser" and "Gigantic" during the choruses. On both, Frank and Kim, respectively, went lower instead of higher, like on the records. The "Andalusia" part and the "gigantic" parts. Does anybody else know what I'm talking about?

No doubt years of drinkingm drugs and smoking has stuffed Kim's voice up, and FB is prolly changing his singing to compensate for her.
It sounded like Frank was just belting it out the way it comes more naturally to him now that he's doing more "rootsy" music, instead of the Pixies vocal gymnastics. It sounded a lot smoother, and not bad, but not as good as the really wild way it is on "Doolittle."
On the other hand, "Gigantic" just sounded like shit.

Maybe they for this tour at least permanently remove from the setlist : Monkey, Debaser, Planet of Sound, Nimrod's Son and Where is Your Mind?
Replace with perhaps : Dig For Fire, Alec Eiffel, Break My Body, There Goes My Gun and The Happening.
That way genuine fans get to hear some different stuff and MTV casual fans still get to hear most of the hits, and the Pixies don't have to learn that many new songs to play. |

I consider myself a "genuine" fan, but I've never seen the band play and would like to hear those tunes; "Planet of Sound" in particular. That's a pretty holier-than-thou attitude to take, man.

Bossanova is my favorite, and I certainly wouldn't mind hearing more songs from it. Trompe is pretty cool, too. Honestly, I've never been a really big fan of "Planet Of Sound," yet that was one of only two Trompe songs they played at the one Pixies show I attended.
I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied. |

I think they could do it. I know Rancid learned every song off of every album they'd recorded at one point (which was five) for their 2000 tour and played all-request sets, and their albums have more tracks on them than the Pixies. Many of the songs are simpler, but it's the same principle. It could be done, and it would rock.

hhhhmmmmm, the pixies have matured and devolped individually and come together . and you can hear the difference. fb stil sings the frank black way not the black francis way. crackity jones is a good example of this. he doesnt do the same scream "crack crack" anymore... but im not complaining, i think the songs sound a bit more solid..a bit less exciting but more solid if you understand my meaning..its like the deep voice is some sort of heavy suport :P
anyway, i dont think we should be telling the pixies what we would like..cos if they did what we asked then the element of surprise would be gone...and if they did that hey wouldnt be the pixies anymore, they be the "frank black forum reprasentatives"... that even sounds funny.
every band has to make their own desisions..that what gives them their individuality... if the the pixies were to start groping for praise and to please all the tv geeks everywhere then theyd turn into good charlotte!!!!! a terifying thought.. i dont tihnk i know another band and more comercialised..nightmare |

You're not alone!
I just want more songs from Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde. I don't ask specific songs but I wouldn't mind if they play six songs from each... And maybe one or two b-sides from this time (Santo for instance). That would be great and kick some ass!
And for Planet Of Sound, they didn't play it a lot of time, it was U-MASS that they played almost every night (with Subbacultcha).
But we should not ask for too much, otherwise, Kim Deal will sing Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons! |

Well... that actually is really cool. I never heard of that, but that's a really neat idea.
I don't thing this is going to change, either thankfully. But I saw a really glitzy concert the other night. I am glad that the Pixies stick with this is about he music and not the gliz and glam. It's one of the many reasons that make me feel proud to be a fan!
