Hello! My, my, it's been a long time since I was last here. I've just spent a few moments reaquainting myself with the topics and it seems my problem hasn't been covered yet.
Well, for the last few days as those of you living in England will know, the Sun has decided to come out from wherever it has been hiding for the last 7 months. It's about this time every year my friend and I begin competing with our summer compilations only... I'm out of original stuff and suffering from complete compilers' block! I'm really looking for something new this year so I wondered if you guys could help in posting your favourite summery songs so I can get some kind of fresh diversity this year. This is serious stuff!
I'm looking for about 15 tracks, the first track not being a first track on an original album.

1. Here comes the summer - Undertones (it was the 8th track on the first Undertones-album, and it's a perfect opener for any summer-compilation)
2. Surfcity - Jan and Dean (the up tempo-vibe continues)
3. Summer - Buffalo Tom (transition from track 2 to 4)
4. Here comes the Sun - Beatles (now it's time to chill a bit, and lay down in your rocking front porch chair, because that sun does shine very brightly, and the sweat is running down your back)
5. Warmth of the Sun - Beach Boys (idem, but the mood gets even deeper. time for contemplation)
6. Master Blaster - Stevie Wonder (back to some more up-tempo stuff, but the reggae allows you just as well to remain seated in that easy chair. Be sure however to have at least a cocktail at hand. Contains the lyrics "it's hotter than July")
7. Holiday - Weezer 8. Survival Car - Fountains of Wayne (these two speak for themselves, I assume. Nice sunny pop)
I'm sure somebody else can fill up tracks 9 to 14, I'm done with my A-material. If you don't mind three Brian Wilson-composed tracks on your compilation, I should definitely end with...
15. Good Vibrations - Beach Boys

How about: A Pair Of Brown Eyes by the Pogues? That one always makes me long wistfully for the summer.
I'll come back if I think of any more.

Must admit to wanting to start something like this but was waiting for the sun to come out. Us northerners haven't seen it in ages.

How do you make that connection? Well, at least it's a better choice than A Rainy Night in Soho. That one has to be the perfect opposite of a joyful sunny summer song :) |

In my mind's eye, I see Shane MacGowan as the one seeing 'One summer evening, drunk to hell'. That's about it for connection, but it works for me.

Pretty much anything off Last Splash, that is THE summer album for me. I dust it off everytime the mercury rises. Especially "No Aloha", I can't get enough of that song.

I noticed geertos included a couple versions of "here comes the sun" which made me think of my favorite version by Nina Simone.
Also, "I can see clearly now" by Househouse Flowers comes to mind. |

I've been around its been a good few monthes of mourning but I've gotten use to the fact they've gone and aren't coming back.
I guess at some point I have to remember this man will one day have his own band:
Hope your good Mike, still listen to a couple of your songs when they pop up in itunes.
Uh another good summer song: Weezer - The whole of the blue album

XTC's Skylarking is a great summer album.
A few other songs I can think of that fit the summer theme:
Pixies - Velouria (How can people forget this one? Frank says "every summer" right in the lyrics!) Statler Brothers - Flowers On The Wall Young Fresh Fellows - Unimaginable Zero Summer YFF - Summerland Fastbacks - In The Summer
"Reunion? Shit union!" |

Yeah I'm good. There looks to be some good albums coming out this summer including the mclusky 3CD set, new Malkmus, etc... I've always really enjoyed early Ramones mostly the first album and Leave Home during the summer and Descendents. Good summer music makes me want to do stuff.
