ooh election time!!!!

Labour website: http://www.labour.org.uk/home

Tory website: http://www.conservatives.com/

Lib Dems website: http://www.libdems.org.uk/

These are all very interesting. The conservatices clearly taking the scary tactic and whilst numero uno on their to do list is lower taxes *rolls eyes* the main flashy banner is all about the immigration which seems odd to me because immigration issues haven't been as forefront in recent times as they were last year. We all know the general public has a relatively short memory. Even their other policies though,
  • clean hospitals (scary factor - hospitals under labour are dirty)

  • school discipline (scary factor - the kids are going nuts, sadly true)

  • more police (scary factor - criminals everywhere)

  • have a high scary factor. Although, in my humble opinion the scariest thing on the site is the picture of Michael Howard, harharhar.

The portal to the labour site, 'ask tony' showing the friendly face of labour maybe (i'm not buying it personally) very clever little what has labour done for your area uk map, very flashy indeed. Pretty much same pledges worded to sound soft and friendly I think,
  • your family better off (lower taxes)

  • Your child achieving more (better scools, note on discipline)

  • Your children with the best start (interesting one this, better maternity/paternity leave and after school pre school clubs etc)

  • Your family treated better and faster (hospitals again

  • Your community safer (police again)

  • Controlled borders (hello it's immigration and the dreaded ID cards)

  • cursory glances this, but they look the same just worded from the scary/softly approaches.

Lib Dems lets see... Oh I am so biased it's untrue. Ok Lib Dems:
  • Put patients first - free doctors and nurses from Whitehall meddling.

  • Free personal care when you need it – no one forced to sell their home to pay for care.

  • No tuition fees, no top-up fees – university affordable for every student.

  • More investment in children’s early years – spend the £1 billion Child Trust Fund money when it matters most.

  • 10,000 more police on the streets – cutting crime and the fear of crime.

  • £25 more on the pension every week at 75 – a million pensioners off means-testing.

  • Free off-peak local transport – for all pensioners and disabled people.

  • Axe the Council Tax – Local Income Tax is both fair and affordable.

  • We should not have gone to war in Iraq – it’s time to restore trust in the Government.

  • Take the environment seriously - cut pollution, cut congestion, and boost renewable energy

  • Slightly different tack, targetting the elderly and the students mostly. One of the things (I've said before and will say again I'm sure) I do like about these guys is they're pretty upfront about how they're going to do things, their costings have been attacked from the other two parties but a lot of it makes sense, red tape ties up a lot of budget and chopping that down will free it up elsewhere. Also out of the 'main players' shall we say they are the only ones who continually bring up key environmental issues like renewable energy. I'm not going to go on because, biased.

SO the conservatives reckon that Britain will be scarier if labour get a third term, labour reckons that the country will be cozier if they get the third term and the lib dems think they are the real alternative.

    What do you think?

    (for the masochistic: http://www.independenceuk.org.uk/ *shudder*)

no I haven't seen it, it looks very interesting and the blurb makes sense, the dividing line between new labour and the conservatives grows increasingly fuzzy, I mean all I did was pull out the key party selling points from the website and the conservative/labour points are identical pretty much.

I decided late last year that I would exercise my right this year because I realised how stupid it is not to vote for The Libs just because they probably won't get in. If we all had that attitude then they definitely never will.

But most people seem to have that attitude!

The amount of people who winge and moan about the state of the current government and then can't be arsed to vote is quite something. (And I'm pretty damn sure it isn't UK specific either)

It frustrates the hell out of me I have to say, and the number of people I have spoken to who say they won't vote lib because it might get the tory gov. back is immense, I tend to poke these people then lecture for a while. Vote for what you believe in for heavens sake!

    sorry, off on one...

Well it's not so much who they vote for as their reasons behind voting I find frustrating, vote labour if you believe in what they promise, not because you're worried the bloody daily mail readers will have their way

I tend to think immigration issues are kind of silly anyway. "Oh, no! Some people want to live on the other side of an arbitrarily defined border!" I mean, I realize it's not as simple as all that, but I still think it's ridiculous when people get their panties into a twist over immigration.

well sadly we have a massive contingent of the stupid over here who think every person who moves to this country through immigration (or whatever) have come to rape the benefits system and go all out for what they can get.

neglecting the fact that some people have come here leaving behind family, well paid jobs.. in fact, leaving behind their whole lives entirely to come to a country where they get screwed over because they can't always get meaningful work (there are cases of doctors having to do shitty supermarket jobs to get by) they don't always speak the language and get lamped into shitty estates in poor areas where people have a higher aggression towards immigrants and asylum seekers anyway.

This is a row I have had so often, there are always going to be those people who mess with the system and are out for what they can get and it's sadly these people who the majority in this country use as an example of why immigration is bad even though really the chancers are the minority.

You get just as many brits who make a joke of the system as well as immigrants, but for some reason thats ok.
