I am thinking of getting one of my friend's to buy me an iriver from the US when they visit next week, as it will save me a lot of money. However I am worried about how this will effect my warranty. I had a look on Wal Mart's website, and the warranty terms state that you must return the product to the place of purchase, with proof of purchase, but then also mention sending it back via post to iriver, later on in the text.
Obviously if I have to take it back to the shop then I am screwed, but if I can send it back then that is not too bad (although the postage costs would be pretty steep). This is the link to the warranty terms anyway, in case anyone can make more sense of than I can. Thanks. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod_info.gsp?product_id=3380852&cat=4532&type=19&dept=3944&path=0%3A3944%3A172481%3A3983%3A96469%3A4532#6

Mike, generally, especially from a shit place like WalMart (don't buy it from them, please, unless they're losing money on it), the store will only offer as a warranty whatever the manufacturer does. I.e. they'll take care of the headache of mailing it to the manufacturer for you, but the manufacturer does the rest. Stores that sell extended warranties above and beyond the price of the product generally are then responsible for looking after your product AFTER the manufacturer's warranty is done with.
So, in short, if you buy from Walmart or anywhere, you can ALWAYS contact the manufacturer and operate through them. You could be in trouble buying gray market, which is to say, in the US for the UK but I don't know much about that. You could contact iRiver and tell them you're going to visit the US next week and do you get the same warranty buying them and bringing it back?

Thansk Benji. Do they have actual stores in the US, 'cos hopefully I won't be buying it online, but direct from the shop (via a friend)?
So how are you finding the H340?

I am gonna stick with the H320. I don't see myself needing 40gb.

Really? Do you have a lot of photos on it too? Or movies? Don't those ones hold something like 15000 songs?

they say 10000 for a 40GB one. i've got 6GB left on mine and it's got just over 6000 songs on therre. it was full, but i took off lots of crap that i really don't want. i have less songs cause i have quite a number of rather long songs on there.
all depends on how big your music collection is mike.

I'm in the same boat as HPM. Would like a good player at least 20gb that is cheaper than the iPod and possibly with more features.
But I use iTunes so I need a player that can play .aac and .m4a. I'm not sure if the iPod is the only player that reads .aac (since Apple created .aac).
HPM, let me know what player you end up getting. Post your review of it. |

iRiver is coming out with a 20GB version of the H10, which I most definitely will trade for. It's such an awesome player. It should be out in the US within the next couple of months.
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

Benji, you have talked me into it, I am getting the H340 instead of the H320. Actually it was more down to me doing a rough count of my record collection. I also want to put some films on there.

You can do it on your's too Benji, you just need to upgrade your firmware. I think it may be 1.17 or soemthing like that. Someone on Amazon mentions it in their review. Check out the iriver website to find out more.

Well I got my H340 on Friday after work. It's a smart piece of kit, very impressive. I have been sticking songs on it all weekend and I am still no way near the end of my collection. I think I have about 1500 at the moment. Only another 8500 to go.

I ened up buying a 256mb rio forge. I paid 89 dollars off of overstock but bought a 1GB chip which cost 109.00 The thing is perfect for my jump roping I'm doing in my house everynight. I've only had it since Friday and my neighbors are already starting to smile again. I've been torturing them for months now. Now I will probably get an Ipod as well. What's this H30 Monkey?

The H340 is a 40GB iriver MP3 player. It's pretty much the best that money can buy right now. You can upgrade the firmware so that it plays movies. It has a tuner, which you can record from, a microphone so you can use it as a dictaphone and it displayes photos too. It's bloomin' fantastic!

Homer, you make me doubt!!do you have that?, can you change the battery?
I read in some forum that the iriver can't play an album in the track order on the CD, and the H340 always plays back alphabetically, it's true?? |

No the H340 can play in order of artist, album or file. I prefer the file option personally. You arrange it how you want on your PC. Plus you can upgrade the firmware so that it plays movies/music videos/porn whatever the hell you want.
I don't know who told you that about the track order of the CD but they were talking rubbish.
It also looks very nice and has an FM tuner and a record function so you can record internally or externally. I use it to record guitar parts sometimes and you can also record from it's radio or from any external device (yes, even vinyl).
It's the best portable MP3 player out there at the moment. It holds around 10,000 songs but the H320, which is 20GB, holds around 5,000.

I currently in the market for something for wokking out (running, stationary bike, etc). From the looks of things, flash memory is the way to go. So do I get and iPod shuffle? Maybe a Creative MuVo? Network Walkman?
