I know i'm twenty years late here but this band is just what a thirty
somethin kid needed. Now i know why i like bands like PIXIES,
SAMAIAM, SWINGIN UTTERS, PEGBOY. it's just crazy how good this band is. got "metal circus", and tonight i picked up "new day rising". gosh, i'm just so happy.

it really is never to late.

'Copper Blue' was in a batch of cds a friend lent me years back, and then Husker Du's 'Warehouse' found it's way into my collection.

I know what you mean and feel when you discover a band like this, i had the same thing with Sugar. Quite funny, at the time, how much they reminded me of my ever so new favourite band Pixies. That was a good summer of music. I need to track down the rest, FB solo sort of took over my listening back then.

Don't Sugar have a song called 'A Good Idea', that's like an unofficial cover of Debaser?

They sure do.

Their driving bass riff is G - C - A - C, oh so similar to Debaser

My favorite Dü(-related) albums:

1. Copper Blue
2. Last Days of Pompeii
3. Everything falls apart (and more)
4. Warehouse

About "A Good Idea", Bob Mould said that he wanted to write a song that sounded like the Pixies.

Hmmmm, I've been going through a Husker Du/Sugar listening frenzy too over the last couple of weeks. Already had Warehouse/Candy Apple Grey and Copper Blue. Just bought F.U.E.L and can't believe I've gone this long without hearing 'Gift' which is an absolutely amazing song.

Have the Last Dog and Pony Show winging its way to me as well. Zen Arcade/New Day Rising/Black Sheets of Rain are all on my must purshase asap list.

Dinosaur Jr, now there's a blast from the past.

have you heard Copper Blue yet, homers, by Sugar?
I knew at the time of finding both bands Pixies were into the Du's, but to me the P's were the ones with the superior songs. But that didn't stop me loving them. Just most of the time A Good Idea was played, at the very last note the disc was ripped out and Doolittle put in for my slice of some real Debaser pie.

Bob Mould has wrote some killer songs, and the fact he's a fan of BF/FBs work only makes me like him more

don't you guys ever listen to anything i say? i've been raving about bob mould forever and ever and ever and ever........

llamadance - new day rising is great!

for the guys who like sugar, track down "besides", but make sure you get the 2-disc with the live bonus disc. sugar were the loudest concert i ever saw, and BM's stage presence is much like FB's.

sorry shineofthe... i missed those posts. but for what it's worth, you got good taste.

another gig i'd love to see, Bob Mould doing his thing. Just love the confidence I can hear in his voice, FB has that too i think. They have so much faith in their songs and rightly so. They both just bang them out, writing is so second nature to them. Bet they're friends too. Oh the potential jammin sessions....don't be shy boys! i'd buy it!

Will definately track down those b-sides too, thanks!

My favorite Husker Du album is New Day Rising, perfect from start to end. Anyone thinks that the Huskerd Du albums could have been produced better?

Beaster is my favorite Sugar album (okay ep). It was recorded during the Copper Blue sessions, Bob Mould was on a roll churning out brilliant songs and Beaster shows his louder side.

I would love to see Bob Mould live but I think he has stopped touring. Anyone knows if this is the case? I remember him mentioning in an interview once that on tour he suffers from tinnitus caused by their loud shows.

Dorky as it sounds, I've been avoiding this thread for the last
hour or so until I could calm myself down and post
something somewhat coherent.

I adore Husker Du/Sugar/Bob solo. For me,
the name Grant Hart and Bob Mould are what
John Lennon and Paul McCartney are for
most people.

The best/loudest/most righteous show I ever saw that was not Frank's was Bob Mould solo in Montreal. (Afterwards, backstage,
I met him and his parents, which is a long and weird
and sweet story.) Not to sound like shiner, but hasn't
anybody been listening to me or seeing my crazy
posts in the Beautiful Men thread? He's not just
brilliant, he's sexy...which may not matter much to the
people who've posted here so far. He played the Paradise
Club in Boston early this year but I couldn't make it.
Good Idea is one of my fave songs ever, if only
for the lyrics alone!

I'd better stop nerding out here. Sorry.

I would love to hear your long and weird and sweet story! I too have seen Bob Mould live, and I have to say he certainly puts on a good show. I would have killed to meet him. Lately I have been listening to "First Drag of the Day" on my way to work, and reminding myself I don't smoke anymore.

He is just awesome. I just love how he starts each song with a no apologies approach. It hits everything like breaking glass.

I'm not too familiar with Husker/Sugar stuff, nor have I heard any BM solo, I've just heard/read a lot/seen interviews on tv etc. about them over the years. I do like that song 'Fortune Teller', however.

Yeah, I have a copy of Candy Apple Grey I that I rarely listen to because the production is so bad. It's an old disc that I bought way back when CDs were a new thing, so I thought maybe it was just the CD that was poor.

I love the sound of breaking glass
Especially when I'm lonely
I need the noises of destruction
When there's nothing new
Oh nothing new, sound of breaking glass
I love the sound of breaking glass
Deep into the night
I love the sound of its condition
Flying all around
Oh all around, sound of breaking glass
Nothing new, sound of breaking glass

Kathryn, please tell about you meeting Bob Mould. He is probably the only of my favorite musicians I would love to meet and know it could go well.

Anyone familiar with Grant Hart's solo stuff? I know he was in the band Nova Mob. Which of his work is worth checking out?

I would love to hear Candy Apple Grey produced like BM's hubcap album. The guitar screeches on Egoverride sound brilliant.

Bob Mould has a new album, Body of Song, out on 26 July. He will be touring the album (guess the tinnitus isn't too much of a problem)

new day rising, especially if you like zen arcade a lot. warehouse probably gets the second most play of all my du.

i'm waiting for superabounder to pipe in, i'm wondering what he thinks of the sugar stuff compared to husker du.
