Hey rita,
its just a bottle of liquid that if you add it to something it tastes like you smoked it on wood. Sometimes its actually produced by burning some sort of wood chips (like hickory) and condensing the smoke into a liquid form. Good stuff.

hey fartbone, are you a Sushi Roku fan? i thought it was great, but maybe a tad overrated? if you're a sushi fan, i can't recommend Matsuhisa enough. it's probably one of the best meals i've had in my life. don't go on a date though because then you'll be dropping serious dough..

i'm sure you've heard of Nobu? it's the original restaurant from that chef, Nobu Matsuhisa.

That sounds awfull, I thought it could be that, but I didn't want to beleive on it. To give the smoked taste to food...

It's actually pretty good if you use it in very small ammounts, like if you are making a sauce especially BBQ sauces... It would be disgusting to drink it straight... It's not very versatile really, to me... But you have to like the taste of smoked foods to begin with, and I'm not too keen on that, everything is fucking smoked around these parts...

Rita, to truly appreciate liquid smoke, see the Simpson's episode where
Marge takes the kids to church and Homer stays
home in his underwear, turns the heat up
and puts a stick of butter into, I think, a piece of bread
and drenches it in liquid smoke.

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Catholics

Heh, I thought of that same thing. Except he was actually making moon waffles, using marshmallows, liquid smoke, and waffle batter.

Am I the only one who gets a little uneasy about soy products made to look like meat?

i actually like gardenburgers sometimes (laugh all you want).. but not the ones that try to taste like meat. gardenburgers don't taste like meat, they've got their own flavor. i think the original brand taste the best.

I had a barbeque, so pretty much the highest meat:other ratio I've had in my entire life. The menu included pork chops, lamb chops, pepper steak, burgers, several kinds of sausage including boerewors (Nic - it's locally made, and pretty good...), but no chicken, which was a controversial decision by thrower of said barbeque.

Pizza with mushrooms and bacon, being lonely makes me eat stupid food. Maybe this should be analized by a specialist.

At least I asked the guy who was making it to put less bacon and more mushrooms on it.

That sounds like a South African braai not a barbeque. If you had had chicken it would have been as a token gesture to the vegetarians.

I like your approach to life, young lady.
Although, chicken-related discussion was had (mostly to do with jerk, and the relative hotability of peppers).

finished off with a few yellow chiles, so my mouth will have that pleasant burning sensation for the next few hours

Big barbeque today - I didn't get to do the barbequeing though (it wasn't my turn *stomps feets & throws toys*) I was however allowed to make a dessert - white chocolate and cardomon mousse with fresh strawberries which was damn fine.
