Anyway, as annoying as it might be for me to bring up TMBG for every single music-related topic, I have to say that I'm quite fond of Apollo 18's cover:
Their new one, The Spine, also has a pretty good cover:
And there's always XTC's famous Apple Venus peacock feather:
Their cover for Go 2 is quite amusing, but I don't think a picture would do it justice, as it would be rather difficult to read.
And, while the cover of Doolittle is pretty cool, it's the INSIDE art for that one that I really like. I'm quite fond of the "I Bleed" bell.

i will have to second both the clash's london calling and TMBG's apollo 18, but the coolest ever has to be:
i know it looks kind shitty there, but if you have the 3-d glasses, it is very cool!

Haha, where the hell do you get these from? I looked for those but coudln't find them and I don't have a scanner. I have a 7 inch of that second one (Shot Down) signed by all the band. It arrived on my birthday. Could be worth a lot of money one day.

Homer, I just googled Nine Black Alps just to see what their artwork was like cause I know their your fav. They have pretty nice stuff and a nice surprise that it was sort of in the same vain as The Go! Team. Heres some more of my favs.

I definately lean to the "arttier" covers.
Definately, Rita I agree that VU cover is my fave cuz I really like Andy Warhol's stuff.
Then, I would have to say, COP, Surfer Rosa and Doolittle.
Rounding out my top I would agree with a lot of you: Jane's Addiction Ritual de lo Habitual & Nothing's Shocking; Joy Division's cover Cheeseman pulled up and gosh there are some I can't remember now.
From a marketing standpoint, don't kill me for saying this... I think Nirvana's Nevermind is on top. It was one of those covers that got people's attention and therfore encouraged people to buy it. The media also picked on it and I think it got more media coverage as a result. |
