Oh, and Llama, I sincerely apologize for steering your thread off of its original course. I hate when that happens, and after such a great thread I wouldn't want to see it get derailed.

I would contribute more, but I don't really don't have much to say for getting old. I'm cherishing my youth while I've still got it, I guess. My future is a mystery to me right now, and rather than dread it, I'm looking forward to it.

me, I can't wait to be old, I want to be able to be grouchy and wear hideous knitwear without feeling like I have to justify myself. I want my birdnest hair fully cultivated. I want to drink ale and smoke a pipe. Well, maybe not the pipe bit.

Being young is over-rated

As long as I can wipe my own ass, then I don't mind.

What if you couldn't wipe your own ass, but your incredibly hot 19yr old trophy wife did it for you?

I want to grow old. Similar reasons to Tre. But the thought of mortality and the realization that we are all fleeting grabs me on a regular basis. Time turns into a living character the older you get.

I'll be another year older in less than a month. It's getting so I forget how old I am, so it seems I'm well on my way to senility.

2 points:

1) you won't be able to wipe your own ass and that's the whole point. That's what the deal is.

2) I was able to achieve all that Tre describes and
Apl covets not by growing geriatric but by becoming
a mom. I just don't give a fuck and it's in a way that
is different from the sassy, punk "I don't give
a fuck" tude of my teen years. After I had a kid,
I stopped taking people's shit or caring about social mores;
I became a hard-assed bitch. The funny thing is, I'm not a hard-ass with my kid.

Why won't you be able to wipe your own ass? I am pretty sure my grandparents can. Thanks for the image.

i find that most old people are capable of wiping their own asses, but they'd rather bitch and complain until someone else gives in and does it just to shut them up.

Dayanara, what;s the grossest thing you've dealt with

For some reason this post made me instantly remember my grandfather. He had been failing for a few months, but still in amazing shape for 96 years old. His legs were starting to get shakey and he was falling quite often, but still refused to use a cane. My husband and I were visiting him often because....well....you just kinda know. On a particular Saturday we decided to visit extra long. We mined him for all the stories we hadn't heard yet and then some. When our visit was over we got up to leave. Grandpa was the kinda guy who ALWAYS walked you to the door and waved to you as you drove off. But on this day he couldn't make it. He just stood there by the table, leaning on it hard pretending there was other reason he wasn't walking us to the door. Grandma did the task and I remember looking back at him... looking very uncomfortable with his age and abilities at that moment. He waved from the dining room and I waved back as if I didn't notice he wasn't able to walk to the door.

The next day he had a massive stroke and died. It came as a shock, but somehow not as a surprise to me. Grandpa didn't like not being able to do the things he loved (like bringing you a cup of coffe at the start of your visit and walking you to the door when you leave. The simple pleasures. If Grandpa wasn't able to do those things, he didn't want to go on anymore....and he didn't. He died the way he wanted to.

So to answer the question...I think I don't worry about growing old as much as I do not being able to leave when I am done.

I'm still pretty young, so I'm not that concerned about it, but I'm not looking forward to it, either.

I do think I'm really pathetic for my age. I think I should at least have a full-time job, now that I'm 27.

Since a forum member quoted another forum member's

which was moments ago emailed from one forum member
to another forum member, and I quote
