I've just watched the news for the first time today. I just couldn't avoid it any longer. It's really fucking upsetting.
Don't believe the type!

People need to be more kind, especially after yesterday's events. We need composure and compassion.

That sounds like the principle behind the whole IQ thing. Perhaps needless to say, I disagree with it.

Daisy, for me it was the London bombing. My stomach was in knots all day.
On my mind tonight:
The only thing that makes bearable the just-announced cancellation of the solo Frank show is knowing that I am seeing the Pixies in less than 48 hours.

moved because it probably doesn't warrant its own thread:
Police evacuate Birmingham centre
Police used loud speakers to evacuate Birmingham's Broad Street Police in Birmingham are evacuating large parts of the city centre amid a security alert.
West Midlands Police said people were being asked to leave the centre, particularly Broad Street, as a "precautionary measure".
No vehicles are being allowed past the inner ring road into the city centre, and there have also been reports of controlled explosions by police.
Police said it was in response to intelligence the force had received.
"It's quite tense," said BBC journalist Toby Brown.
No vehicles are being allowed to be moved, he added.
Birmingham resident Kenneth Kelsall told the BBC: "There is a lot of confusion, there appears to be no chance of anyone moving back into the city - but people are remaining quiet."
West Midlands Police announced they had received intelligence of a possible threat to the area around 2015BST.
Initially people were told to be on their guard and that bars and restaurants were being searched. Motorists were also told not to come into the city centre.
Around 2100BST the police announced that the city was to be evacuated. --- About 20,000 people have been evacuated from Birmingham city centre amid a security alert.
West Midlands Police asked people to leave Broad Street, the main entertainment hub and two other areas. Some city homes were also evacuated.
No vehicles are being allowed past the inner ring road into the city centre, and there have also been reports of controlled explosions by police.
West Midlands Police said it was in response to intelligence it received.
Police have said it was a "proportionate response" to the intelligence, but were not giving specific details.
Birmingham resident Kenneth Kelsall told the BBC: "There is a lot of confusion, there appears to be no chance of anyone moving back into the city - but people are remaining quiet."
West Midlands Police announced they had received intelligence of a possible threat to the area at about 2015 BST.
Initially people were told to be on their guard, and that bars and restaurants were being searched. Motorists were also told not to come into the city centre.
However, about half an hour later, police announced that the city was to be evacuated.
The BBC's Zoe Gough said there was confusion and people were trying to find out information but there was no panic.
'Gridlocked' streets
"Everybody is just being turned round and the main roads out of the city seem to be gridlocked, although traffic does seem to be moving," she said.
"I have seen some cars just pulled up and also people walking along with suitcases away from city centre as if they have been stranded there," she said.
She said people were mainly trying to continue with their nights out, but the area being evacuated appeared to be increasing.
"People who have come here to have a good time have been trying to carry on with their evening, but the area being evacuated seems to be widening," she said.
"I did see a massive queue outside a nightclub, Liberty's in Hagley Street, where people had gone to."
"But it is an exodus and the lot of roads are like ghost streets, when they normally would be packed with people.
"The traffic is moving the wrong way than it normally would be on a Saturday night, put it that way. " Police said they acted after receiving intelligence of an unspecified threat. They said a controlled explosion had been carried out earlier on a bus.
Officers now believe that the item destroyed on the vehicle, in Corporation Street, had not posed a threat. ---
The assistant chief constable of West Midlands Police, Stuart Hyde, said the measures were taken following information about a "substantial threat" to the area, but he said the incident was probably not connected to the London bomb attacks.
"I don't believe that the incident that we are dealing with this evening is connected with the events of 7 July in London," he said.
"I want to make that pretty clear."
He said the decision to close such a large part of the city had not been taken lightly.
"We have made this decision after careful analysis and consideration and we are very, very grateful to the public for their understanding.
"We believe it is a proportionate response to the information.
"Finally I would ask members of the public to stay vigilant."

It's from the BBC website, I got a little spooked last night because Birmingham is 'home' it's where I come from, and we've had troubles there before. It's so weird. You know last tuesday we had a bomb scare in Sheffield and half of the city centre was emptied and it didn't even make the uk news on the BBC website. In fact I only noticed because my ten minute bus journey had taken an hour so far and the pensioners were having a stress on the bus (I had my headphones in and was reading one of these religious books I picked up) but now everyone's going to be jumpy for a while I guess.
The news have said the tube bombs in London went off withing 50 seconds of each other, very very co-ordinated.
Heh possibly Carl, I like to think they were fucking idiots and if I hadn't been so damned tired I might have told them so and taken the being beaten up risk.

Not to go off this serious topic, but the image of Tre reading religious books on busses makes me smile in delight.

Perfect weather for a pasta lunch outside the cafe and a sit in the park.
What do you know? That was my lunch break.
How's that for a slice of fried gold? |

However I'm quite upset - the Metro gossip column says Natasha Bedingfield has an unnamed 'significant other'. The bottom has fallen out of my entire world.

Because of a 25-drop in temperature from this scorching morning, there was only one person in the (frigid) pool this evening so the lifeguards videotaped one another flying off the high diving board on a scooter. This is on my mind, in a good way.

I should have bought those unbelievably hot but impractical shoes last weekend. I'd have been left with no money for the rest of the month but at least I wouldn't be dreaming about them (and the Winnebago Deal).
