It is pretty repugnant, a lot of people would dismiss it as pure exploitation-ironically the reporter charaters manipulate the tribal folk for their news coverage. It certainly influenced a lot of filmakers, I mean, it was made years before the Blair Witch, it may have started that whole faux-documentary movie genre. The worst thing about it is that it contains real animal cruelty. It's a pretty depressing film actually, which is why I would'nt recommend it for most people to watch! |

Aha! I just found a new song for my mix I have to make. On my mind: does anyone know of some kind of chemical/product that turns water into a solid almost instantly? I was in Eureka Springs, Arkansas (very cool town to visit in the mountains) and this magic store on their winding, hilly main street sold me some powder that made a glass of water turn into a gel. That was five years ago and I lost it, but never even knew what the stuff was. Just a whitish powder where a teaspoon would turn a glass of water to gel.
Now that I think about it maybe it was the chemical ice 9 from Vonnegut's book Cat's Cradle, but I kind of doubt it because that stuff destroyed the world.

Not really, getting into a masters isn't hard as usually you have to pay for the privelage. Doing a masters however... |

Today-no work. Beautiful outside. Working out, then haircut for me and my son (his fair day today-no school), then taking him to the Texas State Fair. Maybe playing tennis tonight.

This is tempting me to post pics of my mom's two beasts. Great danes have to have the soppiest nature in the whole world for such big dogs.

Hey, I initially read it the same way, and I'm sober. I'm generally cool with both boobs and dogs, but if they're your mom's, I'd say to stick to the latter.

OK, antfarms are really fun. I highly recommend them to each of you. The ants are really relaxing to watch, and they get all crazy when I have to open the top to give them water. I know it's just a domestic invasion waiting to happen as soon as I fuck up one time and leave the top off or something, but they have made all kinds of great tunnels and they look so industrious all the time. Well enough of the nerd talk.
The Texas Star ferris wheel was incredible last evening. It was one of those perfect days, great sunshine and cool breezes, and we were peacefully exhausted from walking all over the fair grounds all day. On the way out, we remembered that we hadn't ridden this giant ferris wheel (bigest in the US), and we thought it would be an hour long wait, but gave it a shot anyway. After fighting the crowds to get to the base of it, we noticed that the line was not too long. 7PM, and the sun had just set, when we miraculously made it to the front of the line in only 10 minutes of waiting. I kick myself for not having a digital camera along in order to film a movie of what it was like. As we slowly made our ascent, the noise of the giant state fair grounds below was a brilliant cacophany of Midway-Ride machinery, screams from the scary rides, blasting music and amplified announcements. The familiar sounds of amusement park fun, condensed into a mash coming from all over below us. It was moving to me. Now, the sights were another matter all together. To the west were the towering glass buildings of downtown, backlit by the glowing orange horizon just to the left, the sky flecked with a crinkle of purple and crimson clouds. Stretching out like uneven spokes were various roads with lines of Friday night traffic-red and white strings of lights. Then the most amazing part of it: looking at all the twirling midway rides below us, lit with flashing, glowing, exorbitant pin-pricks of lights all over. The colors were exotic and enhanced by the creeping dusk, and there was the feeling of energy from the whole scene below, probably 50,000 people that we could see below us in a constant, random, snail-paced movement. After they had loaded the entire massive wheel, we began to move constantly for two and a half revolutions, the feeling of motion, the pressure in ones ears from the altitude change, the perfect breeze and the quiet of the air above mixing with the remote sounds below. It was phenomenal. Someone should film a movie scene up there during the fair next year.

What a good night. It's a shame to put it away by going to bed. Even the music sounds better right now. And the leaves quietly clapping in the breeze under the cold......
