Hi. This is the first time I've ever posted in this forum, although I've been checking out the forum on and off for awhile. I just downloaded a few songs from the sunday sunny album. Now, I was told this was actually titled 'The French Album'- any truth to this?
The sunday song- at the end does Frank credit the song to someone else? I remember he says 'the kind of Tex Mex'. Who is he talking about, I can't quite make out the guy's name.
Are all these songs remakes? This site has Black listed as doing a cover of 'Man of Constant Sorrow'. Just wondering. thanks.

I don't know if you checked this out yet but it should help a little, it's not fully updated but people are still working on filling the song database with tons of extra information.

They're not all remakes, most of them aren't. Angst is a cover, i guess man of constant sorrow is too... Sister Isabelle is a cover... I'm not sure about sleep, I think the rest are original...

I've never heard it called the French album, ever...

and I'm not sure about the tex-mex guy reference, let me check the lyrics... well, nothing there, I haven't listened to the song in a long time...

I thought there were some old topics about this album but I can't find them... maybe someone else can...

I hope I was some help...

doug sham
the king of tex mex
it's his song

never heard of it as the french album
maybe the mp3 you got was from a french radio show
(in the radio version of sunday sunny, he's quoted: this is by doug sham, the king of tex mex)

sleep is a donavon song
man of constant sorrow is somehow an original

Lil' typo there Jop: Doug Sahm is the king of Tex-Mex.

I do believe "Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day" was recorded acoustic for a French radio show, I have an MP3 that is labeled that way anyway, so that must be where the whole confusion came from.

That said, now that cultofsucktitude mentions it, I'm surprised Frank hasn't done a "French Album" yet (if you don't count the Black Sessions). If someone ever should, that's Le Chuck!

thanks guys! Well, I use WinMX and that's where I got the 'french album' title from, but I suppose they just meant the one song was from the French radio show. Still, I have downloaded songs credited to Black and they've turned out to be something completely different. Sham .. thanks, I'm not familiar with him at all. I'd like to check out his music.
