Just listening to "Black Letter Days" wow! I think I've (again!) changed my ranking of his solo work. Used to be:1)TOTY 2) FB 3)BLD's.......now: 1)TOTY 2)BLACK LETTER DAYS! 3)FB
Also, those 3 albums are in a league of their own. I luv all his solo stuff iclud. Catholics, but the rest of his releases PALE in comparison to these three.
Just as, all the Pixies releases are in a similar league of THEIR own. Frank's solo stuff PALES in comparison to any Pixies releases. |

I don't know that I would. I'm a much bigger fan of post-Pixies Frank personally, but it is all damned good so we're splitting hairs I guess.
However, I would add Dog in the Sand to your list of standout FB albums.

BLD is next on my list of albums i need to buy. From my the albums i have in my Frank collection so far i would rate them this way 1, Doolittle 2, Trompe Le Monde 3, Surfer Rosa 4, TOTY 5, DITS 6, Come On Pilgrim 7, Frank Black 8, Complete Pixies B-sides 9, Bossanova
Isn't it refreshing to see a list where The Simpsons arent top on the poll. |

We're so lucky that The Man creates such amazing music.
While it's hard to rate these things, I must say that Catholics trumps Pixies any time in my book.
I still believe in the excellent joy of the Catholics |

hi, i'm new here and I just recently purchased Black letter Days (that's right .. didn't download it either, probably the first disc I've paid for in three years or so) and I absolutely think it's great! I've had mixed feelings about the Black and the Catholics in general up until now.

cultofs, welcome. FB+theCs are amazing, in my unbiased (cough) opinion. Plenty more good stuff where Black Letter Days came from, my friend!

For each album there's somtehing to enjoy, more or less. It's too hard for me to make a ranking. I only can't wait until the next album and see the man live again.. |

You won't be happy that Frank is considering calling the second volume of Nashville sessions "The Simpsons," then.

Dog In The Sand is good, however it is the only BF/FB album that I have become bored with. There are still songs on there I want to hear, but I find myself wanting to change to Cult of Ray when Im getting towards the end. Ranking? How do you compare the Mona Lisa to Virgin on the Rocks?

Mad Lucas, I know exactly what your saying about Dog in the Sand. I felt that way myself. I found it very hard to get into first day. Then when i thought i had appreciated it enough it was still hard to listen to. Basically there were a few songs that made me play the album over and over and i just dont skip songs. Its a rule for me because i feel its a copout and have been proven many times that the songs i hated first turn out to be the best. Now I rate it this way: 1: Dog in the sand 2: TOTY 3: Pistolero 4: FB I wont add anymore cause i keep changing how i feel about the rest. Pixies would rate this way 1: Surferosa 2: Bossonova 3: Doolittle 4: Trompe Le Monde 5: Come on Pilgrim. Couldnt think to rate them together because its so far apart
Hang on to your Taco! |
