Band names (and anything else) you've read, but you're not sure how to say it.
Taken from the "G" bands thread:
Gorki's Zygotic Mynci Apparently, that's "monkey". Who knew?
Xiu Xiu I say "Shoe Shoe", but with that sort of "z" sound on the "sh".
Clan of Xymox Zie-mocks, I guess?
Anyone got more?

S'more:
Erland Oye The "O" should have be crossed out, so I don't know how to pronounce that letter. I say it like "oi" or "oy vey".
Sufjan Stevens Soof-yan? Suff-jan? Soof-John? I don't know. |

Well, there's Pere Ubu. Everyone says "perry" but I believe it's "pair"
While we are talking about pronunciations, anyone ever heard people say the word "redux" (re-ducks) like it's a French word (re-dew)?

Sigur Ros "Cigur Ros", "Cigar Rus", I have know idea.
Royscopp I could'nt pronounce them until I heard it being pronounce on T.V. Not that hard really "Roys-cop"

Sorry Kathyran, I take it you mean the political party? "Sinn Fain", "Shin (like the shin of your leg) Feign" (as in to feign an injury)

Is the "Ros" like the way you pronounce "Rooster" but with out the "ter"? Ha ha, I didn't mean to type Cigar the second time Calisitanian.

I think the "Ros" is supposed to be like in "Roast", but without the "t". I think.

I think Shine and The Cal. are right....sigger roas(t)
(a name taken from the lead singer's sister -- Sigourney Rose...)
and I always heard/said "Soofjohn Stevens"
and frere jacques (brother john) is pron. "fr-air-uh" right? wouldn't that make it "pair-uh ooboo"?

Eye-n-shtert-zender noy-bar-tun, I think.
I'm guessing just Sig-er Ross as well (maybe Sig-oor? Calistanian's sounds good), but despite outward appearances I'm not actually Icelandic, so I couldn't say for sure. I think Shigger Ross would be the Dutch pronunciation.
I'm curious about Sufjan still. And Dimmu Borgir.

Neu!: I believe it's the german pronoounciation, so "noy".
Pere Ubu: French pronounciation would be "pair ubu" but with the French "u", not "oo". AS in "turlututu". Obviously they're not French so I don't know how the band call themselves.
Einstürzende Neubauten: I'd agree with shineoftheever except you forgot an e. That would be "ein-stür-dzenduh noy-bow-tun", the German "ü" being like the French "u". the "un" in "tun" is like in "unbelievable".
Sufjan: I always say "soof-yan" but I have no idea.
Some others:
Hüsker Dü: Kim Gordon says "hoosker doo" Carla Bozulich: no idea Autechre: the French can't say it
and by the way... How do you say Deee Lite? :)

and speedy, if you get a chance to see him, run, don't walk to the venue. 3 of the best (and most diverse) shows i've ever seen. one was solo with guitar/banjo, one was with most of his band (his drummer got lost), and one was full band. the full band shows play more 'michigan' stuff, where the solo stuff lends more towards 'seven swans.'

Sound advice, I'm sure Brian. I'd love to see him play. I listened to Michigan quite a bit when it came out, I'd love to see him with a full band. Unfortunately us over-worked and under-paid kids in the prairies don't usually get artists like Sufjan. Oh well... I'll have to make due with Magnolia Electric Co. I guess.

Thanks Denis, that one used to really annoy me, I couldn't figure it out since I have no German. And I'll go with Cal's, Shine and Tobafett's Sigur Ros pronounceation think tank as offcial.

I believe "st8-us" is the British pronunciation. I think it might also be the way the band pronounced it, which would make it more accurate in this particular case.
