Its about a helpless loser who like to psycho-symatically over analyze songs. |

Great question. No clue. Anybody know?
(The database is on its way to being updated, so hang in there for that!)

Yes. Please let's don't analyze songs.
Say it with me now, two reelers:
"Song good. Fire bad!"

Apl's post good!
I agree, it's not good to get too analytical. However, I always enjoy it when I learn about something new thru Frank's lyrics, as has been the case several times. I googled Garuda and got someplace in Indonesia. Hmmm..

Up in das hinterlands, north of Powell. You native-born? Small world indeed.
A little discussion of Valentine and Garuda from 2 years ago: http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=1237
to quote the good lady Mereubu: "1. Garuda is some kind of Hindu bird god if memory serves correctly. I guess the subject, in his sadness, wants Garuda to transform him into a bird so that he can fly away from his sorrows (or search for love lost in the past.) [Fun note: the first time I heard this song was on my walkman one early morning, and from the beginning of the last verse onwards the sky above me was filled with a swarm of grackles (a kind of blackbird). Too cool.]" |

I'm actually a native of Toledo but have not lived there for quite sometime now. It is a small world. I noticed some of your art work and gotta say, that sh** is pretty sweet. I've been searchin for a house and have been looking for stuff to buy for it. Maybe you could recommend some things for me. |

Thank you, and I'd be happy to. Know of some folks just got a fixer-upper type in the Clintonville area. Feel free to email me if the notion takes you. I'm from Ky by way of Chicago, but been here long enough to notice how damn quiet it can be.
This quote from Frank in the song db is typical (those are always the best ones imho)...it just manages to further mystify:
"I go hiking by a Hindi temple. I'm not Hindi, but I dig the 'no shoes' thing, taking the shoes off...walk around...chill...pick up on the vibes. Valentine...she's with me." - Frank Black, on stage in Cambridge, MA, May 31, 2003

Yes, what can you recommend for a helpless loser who likes to have his own way?
That one is a toughy. Maybe Burger King-themed decor? I'd be the first to admit, I'm not much of a decorator.
edit: upon reflection, I realized this joke will not play outside of the 30-something American pop-culture-fed demographic. Just trust me when I say, "it sucked anyway". |

I'll take a look. I liked the grandfather clock and a few of the other wood structures. |

On Offtopic - please check again. Some weird rift in the time-space continuum of the forum, I never saw your post from 2/28 until last night.
Why the vegetable abuse? Was it my apparent cabbage for brains that got you in a kim chee-fugue? ;)

For me, it was the first song to really stand out as a great one on BLD.

When Frank sang it at a show (after I requested it - whee!) he said he was walking around a temple picking up on "the vibes" and this is the song he wrote about that.

Some Frank Black fans love to psychoanalyze songs. In fact that's one of the reasons that they are drawn to Frank's music...because it lends itself so well to that sort of geekery.
many thanks Frank, shawnte www.shawnteorion.4t.com |

Didn't Frank say "Taco" was about "universal violence," or something like that?
