I was in the mall today, looking for birthday cards for my brother's girlfriend... and I noticed they had one "Happy 100th Birthday" card. I looked at it, and it was so-so on the outside - just a silver card.

But when you opened it up, there was like this kind of sleeve of paper that was kind of just glued to the card, that said "Happy 100th Birthday".

It got me thinking, if you were going to give a birthday card - don't you think you would kind of shop for a nice 100th Birthday celebration card?

Really, the person has lived for that long. Their probably feeling pretty shitty, the least you think Hallmark could do for these people was make them a nicer card.

If I'm a 100, I hope I don't get a shity Hallmark card. Even the one for the eight year old kid was better, atleast it had a cut-out batmobile that you could fold into a 3D MODEL!

...there was this one, that was shaped like a Hawaiian t-shirt, and had a hook at the top of it. Inside, the caption was "You're the big Kahuna on Your Birthday!". I want that one on my death-bed.

maybe they figure the recipient is most likely legally blind, so it won't matter what's in the card

If I reach 100, and I am healthy and have all my mental faculties intact, then I will count myself lucky. I'm a fourth of the way there already and don't feel that this is so.

In honor of this thread, I checked out the cards while at a drugstore
today. There's some wacky stuff. Sadly, I didn't find a "Happy 100th"
card. But there were some inventive sub-genres such as (and I kid not):
St. Patrick's Day/Romantic and Birthday/Brother-in-law. My favorite
category: Religious. Favorite sub-genre: Religious/Romantic, i.e.
"Wife...I am so grateful the Lord has given you to me." I'm going to

I like the 60s batmobile better, too....

there's a website I saw on tv that specializes in breakup cards and "how-to" dump your boy or girlfriend. but now i can't find it. but I betcha someone knows where it is...and I hate the religious/romantic cards too, Kathryn...

whatever happened to the cool cards? you know, hey you're cute, let's get some dinner and then go do it. why you gotta church that up? that's a hallmark moment!

Homemade cards are the best. The ones you make or receive from friends.

For my last birthday my wife got me a card representing a skateboarding cow with a gift in its hands, and she had replaced the cow's head with Frank's. So I had Frank bringing me presents on his skateboard. That killed me.

(the fact that it was a cow didn't mean anything, the important point was the skateboard)

The only two cards I made for people were for ex's. They both dumped me. I'm sticking to pre-made now.

I like to give the right card for the wrong occassion. Gave a "Hooray for YOU! You're 5!" Minnie Mouse card to my mom for her 50th. Just added a "0".

Then there are religious themes, or "Get well soon" for any occasion, condolences cards for anniversaries, "Sorry for your loss" at Christmas, etc. Thankfully, our friends and family get a kick out of it. We also generally mark them up and add irreverant humor when it's called for. Store-bought cards, as a rule, suck donkey balls.

Hallmark is Satan's mentally challenged messenger boy.
(That may just be my arrogant and self-indulgent opinion, but I know I'm not alone.)

Hehe, I like to do that too. Giving leaving cards as engagement cards is fun.

You get a birthday card from the Queen when you're 100 here. Now that's what I call a birthday card.

I like the Frank Black card allot. Ha ha ha, that's like the perfect picture and everything.

...and yes, the Batmobile wasn't the 60's one - it was the new fangled Batmobile from the new cartoon.

Does/did anyone watch the classic live-action batman with actual actors, not animated or anything. Do you remember if they ever showed the Batmobile in the show? Or was it too low budget?

Is there a Religious/Romantic/Humorous category? Or maybe a Religious/Romantic/Dirty category, with sentiments like, "God wants us to have sex on your birthday!"

My roommate went to his grandmother's 100th birthday party last week. His friend, who came to pick him up, told me that he looked in the store for a card for this occasion. He said that when the numbers started getting higher, they went by decade, like 80, 90, and then they stopped. So he asked someone at the store and they found him a customizable card which had a little wheel with the various numbers above 90. who knew! I NEVER buy cards.

I always thought a funny idea for a wedding card would be like "Congradulations on this wedding day!" then on the face of the bride it's just a wheel that spins through different faces. Then on the inside of the card it says "I know it won't be your last".

You mean the '60s series with Adam West and Burt Ward? The Batmobile in that show was THE best Batmobile ever AND you even had a Batmotorcycle, a Batboat and a Batcopter...beat that Michael Keaton.
