I have heard from inside promoter source that Pixies will be playing this August in Dublin... Source very accurate... and it will be there own gig instead of supporting, as they did with the RHCP last summer...

If this is true I have to cancel my summer trip. Someone came up with the quite sane idea of flying to Budapest and cycling back to Dublin, as someone who doesn't even know what a bicycle looks like, I said I'd go. It sounds more fun than the whole inter-railing thing.

i've just had the best day since i last posted - only about an hour ago! i have to share the story - i know its a little off topic!
i'm in new zealand at the moment - in the city of Dunedin. so just after i left that last post, i decided that i was going to walk over to the University (oldest in NZ) and have a look. so i walk down the road and about 20m from the hostel, what do i see in the window of a record store? A pixies wave of mutilation promo poster! so i went into the shop, and tell the guy that i HAVE to have that! so he said he's run out of them and i eventually convince him to sell me the one in the window... so he says come back later on... so i continued my walk towards the Uni... and what do i spot in a window of a cafe? a poster advertising that the violent femmes are playing in dunedin tomorrow! - the femmes are a favourite of mine, seen them about 4 times, incredible live act... where are they playing you ask? in the university that i'm walking to! so i say great, keep walking and see another record shop, so i decided to ask in there do they sell tickets to the femmes gig, so i walk in and the guy behind the counter is wearing a pixies t-shirt! so he says you can only buy tickets to the gig at the Uni... so eventually i get to the Uni, and tickets are $40, but i manage to convince him to give me the student rate of $30... so then i walk back to the hostel, i notice in the first record store that the pixies posters have been taken down, so i go back in the guy, and he has it rolled up in a cardboard tube, and he also has a small A4 sized laminated one which i also took... now, for me, thats a good day!!

i was in pixeland - but it was all real! the femmes gig was brilliant, just back from it now... free internet in my hostel to keep you all informed! brian richie is really a god on that bass! and my good luck continued! i went to the gig on my own... it said on the ticket that it started at 8, but when i got there it turned out that they weren't coming on stage till 11.30, so i went to the bar and got a beer and met this girl who was also on her own - and guess what also a pixies fanatic ( a true one)...!! so had great time chatting with her, then the gig came on which we both really enjoyed... great night... sorry for boring you all with my personal stories... but it just seemed to fit in with my last post... the whole pixes link that kept cropping up with whatever i happened to do or whoever i happened to meet over the last couple of days!

hey im a pixies head here in dublin, ireland. i saw the show last year "supporting" the chili's. it was fuckin class. ireland's biggest weekend festival is called oxegen and its the 9th and 10th of July. so far its the foo's green day new order queens of the stone age audioslave kasabian killers. we are all hoping the pixies play it cause it would be amasing but i can only see them doing a gig by themselves to maximise profits and that 2 would be class. hey did an irish guy start this topic by the way!???

I missed some of The Pixies(brainlessly, which I will always regret, although it was'nt the best way to see them)and I left The Chillis early cos they were starting to get on my nerves. Let's get a petition going to get them to play Oxegen! I think Chineselover is Irish, He started the topic in any case(to answer that question).

I'd prefer if they played their own gig rather than oxegen, since they wouldn't be headlining what with green day and the foo fighters. But i'll still probably end up goin to oxegen so i guess them playing there is better than having to travel to reading alone cos none of my friends like the pixies (or me) enough to go too.

It'd be cool if they did play their own show tho, possibly with the frames supporting since frank and Glenneth are such good friends.

i'm irish, just doing a bit of travelling at the mo... according to my source its gonna be their own gig and not oxegen...although since oxegen is on at around the same time as the english festivals its a possibilty that they could be added, which is a pity cos oxegen sold out last year and tickets are already on sale for this year, and i've no money!

I don't live near it, but it would'nt be difficult to get to for moi. Not that we're asuming they're playing there! The Helix center might be good, I've never been to it but it seems okay-it's been used for TV shows, etc.

Maybe they're not friends but glen was Frank's chauffeur around Dublin some time

Their Debaser is good, they do "Where is my mind?" well too, but sometimes it turns out so bad like this one time during revelate glen just starts shouting out the "monkey gone to heaven" chorus and it doesn't fit or anything, but he does it.

I'm no expert on Dublin venues, I just hope they play somewhere in Ireland.

Just more pure speculation, but I find The Point and The RDS like big cold cow sheds, The Helix dosnt look that bad though. I'd love to see them play somwhere small like their American gigs, in say the Ambassador, Vicar St. or the Olympia, I dont want to be a mile away from them like the RHCP concert. But then again, tickets would sell out like hot cakes in a day if they did a smaller venue.

Yeah, Chineselover, tell us all this secret information you've been passed on! Really though, Vicar St. or the Olympia would be cool, it's just that a small venue would mean a that a lot of fans would miss out(unless they played a week of gigs or something-hint, hint!) It would be really cool to see them play a dingy little pub! Actually, my brother say Babes In Toyland years ago in The White Horse(before it was done up!), and I believe Green Day played some little pub in Dublin before they hit big!-

i told you all i know!! all i heard was the two venues i mentioned... personally i hope it would be the RDS, for some reason i don't think it would be the point, even though that was the last indoor gig they played in ireland.... they olympia is nice, but does nobody find that the sound lets the venue down from time to time? as for the frames - personal opinion - listenable, but unfortunately like a lot of irish acts... they're just not good enough... i think it funny that on another thread about the frames covering pixies songs, somebody mentions that glen hansard was just like anyother person in the crowd at a frank black gig - no one hassled him - isn't that all he is anyway - just another person in a crowd?

I heard an Interpol song that I can't remember. Over at a friends the other night, I was listening to Television's Marquee Moon(the album), and there's a couple of songs that feature Santiago-ish riffs!

The band is Television, they have an album AND song called 'Marquee Moon'. They were a big influence on a lot of indie bands, Sonic Youth for instance. I have a Fender Squire Tele meself.

I got a dodgy guitar in Goodwins before, but a friend bought a really nice electric acoustic in there recently, and it seems fine. I dunno about Oxygen, I reckon it needs something special(specifically The Pixies!)to spice it up.

didn't these same rumours come about last year for a 2nd date?
Hope this time its true as although it was great seeing them last year seeing them as headliners in a proper venue would be great (and the sound would be a million times better!)
