Tonight i stay over my boss' place and dog sit his Great Dane, appropriately named Thor. I love this dog - so friendly and fun. However, Thor is dying (slowly) from a couple of tumors, so he needs a lot of attention. So this should be interesting - especially because Thor usually sleeps IN BED with my boss, so i'm going to have to either listen to him cry all night or get used to a body bigger than mine in bed with me. Anyone ever care for a Dane before?

My Mom breeds great danes. Hugely entertaining dogs - they seem to have no concept whatsoever of their size and think that they are lapdogs.

Great Danes are lovely dogs, but a little scary too. Just like Rockwiellers.

Great Dane's are stupid and are a bad choice for
a house pet. They will tear up your house, your
yard and will nor respond to NO !
They shed, slobber and bark at their own shadow.
I live with one, not by choice.

I've always liked the look of big dogs such as Great Danes, but I'm not sure how intelligent they are compared to other dogs. I own a German Shepherd (named Herman) and he is really intelligent and very obedient compared to dogs owned by friends of mine. I think I would find it hard to get used to owning a less intelligent dog after him.

German Sheperds are lovely dogs too, one of my favourites. As you say, they are very intelligent. Not to be messed with either, make a good guard dog.

it went fine - thor is a good dog and didn't give me too much trouble. he got me up at 4am to let him out, but i went right back to sleep. he didn't try and sleep in my bed (luckily) and he took his pills and all that just fine

Yeah, I used to babysit this Danish kid Hamlet. Annoying little guy, really. Always soliloquizing.

Seriously, though, I've never cared for a Great Dane, but I know my girlfriend wants one.
