I just read this story (thanks Nic) and it made me smile. I think you know I love penguins anyway.
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1275591.html
I especially liked this bit, "one couple even adopted a stone that they protected like an egg."
By why stop here? If you have any funny/heart-warming animal related tales, then why not share them with the group?

At one time I used to have a lot of pets. I had a parrot for quite a while. He was pretty fun but also a pain in the ass. I was sitting on the couch with him one night and he notices that my cat was across the room sleeping on the arm of this puffy chair i had. So the parrot starts making his way from the couch to this chair which is funny to watch because it takes him like ten minutes to get over there. Finally he's climbing up the arm of this chair and gets up on top and starts sneaking over to my cat to pinch him. My cat is sleeping with his paws tucked under his chin. Just as the parrot is with in 1/2 an inch of my cats nose the cat wakes up, lifts his head and goes with his paw goes BAP(!) to the parrots head. The parrot goes flying back and has to catch his balance. It was too funny!
Monkey expect a live package in about seven to ten days. I'm trying what the Germans did. I just ordered you a female Emperor Penguin for your bathtub. I'm hoping that will help you post less pics in the beautiful man thread.

My dog once adopted a new born cat, she thought she was the cat's mother, and she was always taking him away from the real mother... unffortunatly, this is a sad story, the little cat died because the dog couldn't feed him.
So this is for when you're feeling happy again And this is for when you're feeling sad And this is for when you feel... Something

I was just gonna say how much I like stories you hear about animals adopting other animals. Until I read the ending.

One of my (late great) cats was called Cow. He used to follow me everywhere and was unbelievably perceptive judge of personality. We had an exceptionally foul housemate, Guy (he used to bath with kitchen utensils but that is an entirely different story) who Cow took an instant dislike to. Within 2 weeks of moving in with me Cow had peed on Guy's bed, broken various things in his bedroom and shat on his bed. Cow also vomitted on a friend of mines head. She hadn't left the sofa, let alone the house in days and it was starting to annoy all the other housemates. Cow simply took matters into his own hands/paws and drove her from the sofa by vomitting more than I have ever seen a human produce all over her.

Oh - another cow story. On the farm our cow, Daisy, dissappeared one day (she just used to roam free in the apple orchards during the day out of season and then come when called for dinner in the evening) - we were slightly mystified as to where she'd gone till we got a phone call from a farmer 3 farms away (and this is Africa, they're fairly big farms). Daisy had gone to find the nearest biggest bull for some loving.

Monkeys at a village zoo in Omsk, Russia, are on hunger strike after their keepers failed to satisfy their addiction to onions. The little beasts are sitting in their monkey house, sulking, and refusing to eat the delicious bananas, kiwis and papayas prepared for them.
Three Hamadryad monkeys are the Arthur Scargill-style hardline strike leaders. The other monkeys, afraid to be singled out as scabs, follow their lead. Zoo keepers started giving onions to the monkeys in the middle of winter to try to stop them coming down with colds and flu, and the Hamadryads got hooked

The other day, I read in an Uncut magazine that FBC was kind enough to send me (thank you thank you, FBC!) a little story about a journalist walking into Billie Holliday's hotel room to interview her and finding her in the middle of being orally pleasured by her dog, whose name was Mister.
I am still not sure what to make of this.

I like the two issues of Uncut that I've read, compliments of FBC. Dunno what you mean about a hat and an airplane. I meant about the Billie Holliday dog story.

It was kind of tribute to a joke in Airplane, but an obvious joke in it's own right. I give up on you.

Not "wrong" but, perhaps, "warped." Warped in a charming way. For instance, consider Denis' last post. It's warped but charming. Frank, surely, would appreciate warped but charming.

I always missread forum titles. Like, for the longest time I thought the sticky in the off topic board said "Multiple Accents" instead of "Multiple Accounts".
I miss-read threads on a daily basis - it's kind of my thing you know. |

Another amusing story, courtesy of Nicola again. Thanks Nic.
"Koala bears may spontaneously combust when isolated from their group due to a build up of eucylyptus oil on the tops of their heads. They cannot reach this area to clean it and rely on other koalas to groom them, hence when isolated for a long time the oil builds up and in extreme heat can ignite and explode the koala. This has been blamed for many bush fires."
That makes me a sad Koala.
