Kristin Hersh, Lori McKenna, John Strohm (Blake Babies, Antenna) and the Caulfield Sisters are the first artists confirmed to contribute to "High School Reunion." The American Laundromat Records/Face Down Records compilation will pay tribute to the touchstone music featured in a decade of such films as "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," "Pretty in Pink," "Say Anything," "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," among others.
Hersh covers the Pixies' "Wave of Mutilation," which was on the soundtrack to the 1990 Christian Slater-starring feature "Pump Up the Volume." "We wanted someone who could take this song and make it their own," ALR founder Joe Spadaro says. "Kristin was the first and only person we considered covering it."
Strohm and the Caulfield Sisters take on "Fast Times" -related tracks in Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby" and the Go-Gos' "We Got the Beat," respectively, while McKenna covers Lloyd Dobbler's "Say Anything" love anthem, Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes."
The full roster for the 17-track set, which Spadaro tells Billboard.com is shaping up to be "most impressive," is expected in April, with the disc's release targeted for Sept. 15.

so i assume she's covering the UK Surf version, since that is what was in Pump up the Volume

I assumed it would be closer to the UK Surf version anyway.

Kristen Hersh played in austin a few days ago.. I missed it, but i read some pretty scathing reviews... It was an acoustic set, and she had "no voice"... evidently she's either sick or lost her voice from extensive touring... |

She played Atlanta on the 7th and was said to be sporting a rough voice, so I'm guessing she's come down with something. And another show just prior to Atlanta was referred to as "low energy". She hasn't played that many gigs lately so I doubt it's a result of overdoing it, at least not in recent months. Pity that the reviews would be tough on her, simply because she's put on great shows for so long. I'm not worried about Kristin, except to wish her well. |

That'll be great to hear. Her version of "Everybody's got something..." is one of the few songs where she actually sounds like she's enjoying herself. Since Deal and Donelly did the Breeders, I always thought it would be cool if Black and Hersh got together for a song or two.
