I like.

What sort of stuff is the singer-to-be into, do you know?
You guys are gonna have some fun with these.

Off topic but about bands, my brother plays covers, both new and old stuff. The other night an agent came to check them out and liked what he heard. he's offered them around 50-60 gigs a year nationwide, and reckons one of his other bands make around £600-£700 a gig. if my bro's group use their occasional keyboard player, it could rise to £1000 a gig. For covers!

Another thread maybe, but any idea about band names. I know you haven't even strummed a chord yet, but you gotta be thinking three shots ahead. Or is that snooker?

Yeah my mate (the bass player) and I have been thinking about names for a while. We came up with a few, but none that have stuck with me. I really like Bam Thwok as a band name but perhaps it is too close to our main influence, but I am sure we will think of some more.

The singer is into Pixies, Nirvana, Smashing Pumkins, bands like that but also some lame indie bands which I will have to sort out. She also likes Janis Joplin.

She is Italian so I am interested to hear how she sings, whether it is with an accent or not.

Good news for your brother, I bet he is made up.

I have this idea that every British band starts by covering the Undertones' Teenage Kicks. Am I right? Anyway I want to cover it with my band cause we only play easy songs cause we suck.

I think a lot of bands start with an easy punk number like that yeah. I bet Oasis have been covered a few times over here too. Depends on what they are into I guess.

HPM, might I suggest some Fiery Furnaces. I would love to hear a stripped down version of something off Gallowbird's Bark (perhaps Tropical-Iceland?). I think for most anyone tackling something from their more recent album Blueberry Boat would be a tough feat to accomplish. If you aren't familiar with the band, I would definitely look them up, if only for your own personal enjoyment.

Well the accent will be a nice twist. She's from the right school of music it seems, so have fun. Let us know how the first practise goes.

As for my brother, yeah, they got a meeting next week, it's at least one gig a week, nationwide, so just have to figure how much a disruption it would be to their "normal" lives. Can they be bothered to commit to a contract and all that.
But still, not bad for a covers band.

Teenage kicks. So true.
But it is that good.

Are you in it for the money???!!!??? No, money isn't the point for a rock band. GIRLS are the point.

How will covering Teenage Kicks make you not suck? I think that song must be a ´you had to be there when it came out´ kind of one.

I think Elastica might well be the first up. I gave her the CD and told her of some of the bands on it. She loves the first album apparantly (which all the Elastica songs are from).
