If someone was say, hypothetically speaking, caught speeding at what was considered to be a crimal speed in, say Arizona for argument sake, and you were driving on an international drivers license and did not live in the country or plan to visit that state again, could you get into trouble for not paying the fine?

Just curious.

You should have claimed Diplomatic Immunity, I think all you need to qualify is a foreign accent. What's illegal out there in Arizona, 25+ over? I think my license is still suspended in the great (hahaha!) state of Alabama for an unpaid ticket, but fuck if I'll ever force myself into Alabama again. I'd say you're in the free and clear.

Well, they probably have an option to pay the fine online.

If not, the ticket should have a court date, right?

Criminal speed? Like reckless driving?

If you don't show up I'd imagine there would be a warrant taken out against you. "Failure to Appear" or something.

Take a bite of the chocolate coffin.

i think the only real ramifications you might have are, if you come back here again and try to rent a car they'll probably have a record and you might have problems.

otherwise, i don't really see what they can do.

how was your trip?

it figures you got a ticket in Arizona.. they're the fucking WORST.

i literally got 3 tickets in on week there once. 2 speeding, one something else. the cops there have nothing better to do. and they'll pull you over for going 8 miles over the speed limit

Caught doing 92 in a 60 zone on Route 66. We'd been doing 115mph just a mere 10 minutes before. I blame the rental company for recklessly upgrading us. Our initial excuse of "I'm sorry officer, I'm used to the autobahn in Germany" didn't work (it has before). There was a court date, but we called to explain that we couldn't be there and were told that we could pay over the phone with credit card once the ticket was sent to England. With the current state of the english postal system (all those mix cds not arriving) I'm *cough* worried it may get lost in the post.

Sublime - and you are a damn lucky man to be living in Santa Monica. Sorry I didn't get hold of you, but didn't get near a pc - a rather hectic trip - just under 4000 miles covered, 6 states and 1 maxxed out credit card.

And it wasn't me Rita, I'm still in the lengthy process of learning to drive. I was simply the petrol pump attendent, map reader, on board soyrizo, misomayo and tomato sandwich maker, lip balm and dark glasses fetcher and dj.

that would be fucked up if they could tie it into the Depart of Motor Vehicles in England (or whatever you guys call it), but i doubt they do.

it used to be if you got a ticket in another state, you could pay it but it wouldn't affect your driving record in your home state. now they're all connected. i have a long history of tickets, but havn't gotten one in a while (knock on wood)..

sorry you came during our crappy weather. did you have a good time?

Loved it - just driving though those big open spaces with the top down listening to loud music was like therapy for me. I somehow missed the worst of the weather by keeping moving. Did get caught in a what I would call a blizzard on our way to Taos and Sante Fe though and Palm Springs was flooded when we drove through it but that just helped to clean the very mud splattered car. My final days in LA were sublimely sunny enough to make me ache with longing to go back.

I went to 10,000 Waves but not for one of their spa treatments - I'd punished my bank account sufficiently by then already and I ended up getting drunk at the Cowgirl on their wonderful Jack Daniels and apple cider cocktails on more than one night. Not the sophisticated stay intended but good fun nonetheless.

I went raw LA for 3 days - possibly the most curious experience I've had in a long time. Amused the staff at Juliano's no end. Stayed in Santa Monica since our original plans seemed like a bad idea when our friend's coke addict girlfriend decided she was uncomfortable with 2 females sharing the house. Got stuck in traffic loadsk, but managed to do heaps of self indulgent stuff - just wandering about Venice and Santa Monica, playing crazy golf, spending far too much time and money in Amoeba Records (be still my beating heart).

shame. i live in Venice.

glad you had a good time.

10,000 Waves is all about the private jacuzzi rooms. not spa treatments (unless you're a chick)

I'm already planning my next assault on your fine shores, it'll be a while, but I'll be back. Amoeba is enough to get me back there - like porn for me I tell you.

And yes I am such a chick sometimes.

Good to see you're back safely. Ending up with a speeding fine doesn't sound like too much damage. While you were planning the trip I had some Thelma and Louise scenarios playing in my head. Y'know, hair waving in the wind and petrol tankers exploding.

Sounds like your trip was a pretty good alternative to Kersfees, sonskyn en braaivleis.

I believe that would be me, Floop.

And to answer your question, Surfer, I'm all about honesty
being the best policy and that other cliche I live my life by
"life will bite you in the ass," meaning in some future decade
on another continent altogether in a non-vehicular context
this fine you will have forgotten about for ages will
rear its ugly head and ruin your life. Pay it now and forget it.

It was me, floop, I mentioned 10,000 Waves first.

though we disagree about who won (me) at least we agree about one thing:

10,000 Waves rules

i never got me a spa treatment (cuz i'm not a chick), but those private tubs are something else. and surprisingly affordable.

we stayed in this one the last time..
