What OCD traits do you have? *I* don't think this is strange at all, but I work in a retail store and refuse to touch the gum that I'm always chewing because of the massive amounts of germs which are probably all over my fingers. I always hold the wrapper and push a stick of gum into my mouth w/o letting my fingers touch it. If they do, I throw that part of the gum away. I also have always liked odd numbers alot, but not evens. They just don't look quite as nice to me. |

My biggest thing is the public bathroom routine. After I wash my hands, I hate to grab the door handle to open the door thinking that all those guys that just zipped up and walked out without washing their hands just grabbed that same door handle. Therefore I must get an extra paper towell for opening the door and then toss that towell in a trash outside. Some enlightened bathroom-engineers seem to anticipate this need and leave a trash can just inside the door. That's the only OCD trait I'm consciously aware of. |

Oh, I'm right there with you on that, too. In fact, I punish those whose bathroom-engineers didn't think like this by throwing my paper towel on the ground if the trashcan isn't within throwing range. I figure that if they are going to make you pull the door open to get out (strike 1), and they didn't foresee that some people don't want to touch a dirty handle after washing their hands and yet don't place a wastebasket nearby, they should be punished. I'm obsessive-compulsive AND master of the run-on sentence. |

If I'm a passenger in a car, I'll tend to look at the white lines in the middle of the road in sets of two, like the car is bouncing between them. OK, that's definitely odd right?

None of this behavior sounds odd. The hygiene-related behavior is downright smart. (Which is dumber: not washing hands at all after using a public toilet, or washing hands and then touching the germ-encrusted door handle??!?)
True OCD is caused by a brain thing, interrupts and renders miserable people's lives and in most cases is effectively dealt with thru meds.
I'm with you on the bathroom engineers. Architectural ergonomics shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

I don't really have any of these, a friend of mine does, though, and he spent 6 months in a hospital (not only because of that, he became quite depressive as well). At one point he had to stop anything he was doing at 10 pm, lock himself in the bathroom, and write down everything he did that day.

I have the oddest one ever:
When I am reading or working on the computer, I highlight lines of text and go onto the line above. I have to get the same width of highlighting upwards as there is sideways, so that there is a line which goes across, up, across on the screen? That probably makes no sense. Anyway, I do this almost constantly when I am on the computer, which is, admittedly, quite a lot. I never knew that, but someone noticed, and now I am painfully aware, that this is WEIRD behaviour and I can't stop. I am doing it now whilst reading through this.
Also, I used to have an obsession with the number 4. I used to have to do everything 4 times. Shutting doors, taking things out of cupbourds, stuff like that. If I couldn't do it more than once I lost all hope and thought the world was an evil, odd place. I still have a thing against odd numbers.

I always check things like locks and the alarm clock multiple times. And, like our erotic vulture here, I've also tended to do things in sets of a certain number.

I have that number obsession too, I only like the pair numbers, even in my clock to wake up it must be like that! Check locks...all the time... I'm very superstitious
Purify the colors, purify my mind, and spread the ashes of the colors over this heart of mine!

I welcome germs. And I make sure to touch the handle when leaving a bathroom. Not to brag, but I've had one minor cold (lasted three days) in the last four years. Pathogens cower at the vast amounts of capsicum I ingest. |

To elaborate on my love of odd numbers, I also do things in sets of them. 13 is my fave. I often kiss my girl 13 times in a row. I always set my alarm and microwave timer to an odd number. And my chosen phone # has all odd digits. Except for the area code. :( |
