only a year ago when we considered having a child i thought i would just put in earplugs, sleep peacefully through the night, and the baby would become super tough. when i first told my wife that she smacked me in the head. i've got lots of learning to do and really looking forward to the ride.
we use to record her sleeping/feeding pattern after we read up on 'routines'. that word haunted us for at least a few weeks. it got thrown out the window, because it was pointless in the end.
She let us know when she was hungry, then after feed she'd sleep. we'd try and get her to bed about 8ish, then she use to get up around 12am, 2ish, maybe 5 in the morning then around 7.30am. Before we new it, she'd start to sleep from 8pm all the way through 'til 3. Wa'hoo! that was one of those landmark moments for us.
shortly after, we'd bathe her around 8, then feed, then bed. This was the start of our routine. Now, about a month later, she has her feed, then bath (her sign it's bed time) then she's out like a light. two and a half months old, she's now sleeping through from, say 8.30pm, all the way to 7.30 in the mroning. we have some random wake-ups in the night, but more often we get some good hours kip.
It's a fun ride, fumanbru. Wait until you get the smiles. |

Kathryn, Carolynanna, Rita, any mums out there?
my little angel loves staring at lights, especially light bulbs. it has such a hypnotic effect that when she cries, i can immeadiately calm her by holding her tight and playing supergirl with her under the ceiling light. She just smiles and stares at the light in glee as she flies through the air. Do you think this may damage her eyes in some way? i tried it myself last night and it's not the smartest thing I ever did.
Ooo..Bright Light!

congratulations fuman and fbc and your ladies. i was just telling kiki via email that i can't wait to be a daddy - i'm jealous. not that i'll be a daddy any time soon - ms. broken face and i aren't thinking kids until after we're married and settled for a few years - and we still aren't engaged! so there is still some time, but i loves me some babies!

FBC, though little Willow is, without a doubt, an exceptional being, the staring-at-the-lights thing and its variations (my baby loved staring at the whirrling ceiling-fan blades!) is a normal and common pacifying and harmless activity that babies engage in.
But, let me state again, your daughter's palpable superiority to ordinary babies.
Good for you getting her to sleep from 8 to 3. That's great!
One of my life's highlights was when my daughter was old enough to stand in the swimming pool communal showers and space out staring at the wall with the water running down her back, the way every tired swimmer likes to. She was about 13 months or 14 maybe and it signalled to me the end of 24/7 attention on my behalf. I could finally again have five minutes a day of spacing out in the shower!
Not to bore the non-parents.
I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank |

FBC, you seem to me like a very proud daddy, that's lovely to see, and maybe your little angel is beggining to see the light! They all have sweet little things that they enjoy, their first little pleasures.

thanks K, that's reassuring
this morning she rolled over for the first time ever
my, they grow up so fast. *sigh*
(ah rita, she's seen the light and hearing it too. I've a movie clip I tried to upload but i messed it up. She's smiling and a'gooin (her favourite noise) with frank playing Go Find Your Saint, pretty appropriate to here but like i said, i messed up somewhere) |

didn't cut the cord. no big deal. happened so fast. alexis came out, tear to my eye, nurse said "it's a girl!", the doctor cut the cord, and then the baby was in mother's arm. great moment.
did you do the honour?
and thanks for the sleeping pattern advice. she is a good healthy sleeper but for whatever reason she likes to be wide awake between 1:00 am - 4:00 am.
i think i got a first smile last night. (smile to dad but probably a reflex). i was rocking her to sleep while doing fb kareoke to sir rockabye. it felt so good that i am now in the process of making a fb/pixies/breeders baby lullabye mix cd.

Hey Fu, yeah i had a pretty similar experience to you. My girl was in labour from Sunday morning through until the birth at 9.14pm Monday night. It was such a surreal experience ending in me holding my daughter. I had no choice about the chord, was so in the moment of "wow! it's a baby", like us guys do when the midwives put the scissors in my hand and egged me on. SNIP...ooo..rubbery.

Hey Fumanbru, how's it going on the dad front? got any updates? any pics?

the dad front is fantastic! thanks for asking. the whole family is doing great. alexis is pure joy. she's starting to smile and focus on our faces. we have loads of digital pictures but i don't know how to post online. if someone know's please let me know and i will post one of her.
i finished my fb, pixies, breeders lullabye mix that i'm very proud of and play regularly. so far her favorites are sir rockabye, every time i go around here, ana, in heaven (live in vancouver- she was a week old in mommy's tummy when we saw the show), drivin' on 9..... i could go on and on. and yes it is somewhat of a cliche- but a great one. how's fatherhood for yourself or any other parents?

I'm glad it's going so wel, fu. Everything is just great here too.
I think your little one is only a few months younger than mine, so we're sorta learning together. She's able to eat some solids, which is basically little jars of mush (one we have is cauliflower and cheese, oh my, the smell!) and we also have some little yoghurts she's allowed to have. She loves them. Feeding time involves some mush, followed by the strawberry yoghurt washed down with juice. Still getting the bottles of milk too throughout the day.
It's funny, when me and my grrl get time to ourselves, we can't help but reminisce about the delivery day, how things have changed, how little baby has grown in these short months. It's funny because we look back and miss her being so small, the cliche of they grow so quick here fu. Still, the future now is so much clearer and happy with her around. So much to look forward too and.....yep! that parent thing of so proudly chatting about their angels and boring others to death, i best stop too, we could be here for along time.
I use photobucket.com to host my pics. real easy to use. cheers for the update! |

Hey fu, she so cute, looks a little like mine when she was yay old. It's amazing to see the face develop and go from baby to, well, older baby, but more a personality and individuality.
Homers, you wouldn't believe the fun of mixing a tape for a little one. no pressure about wanting the listener to enjoy, it's all about the meloday and the soft sound. I never realised the breeders, frank and pixies could be so soft. t's such a buzz to know your baby's first song in her life is by FB linked. Can't wait for her to have my posters on her wall and teaching her the six string.
Rock and Roll!
here's my little one with her new found friends

Aww, another little cutey. Her friends look happy to see her. I think every baby has to have an elephant as a friend don't they? altohugh a pink elephant would suggest too much alcohol, hehe.
Did you put The Breeders, Only In 3's on the mix? I reckon that would be another good one for a child. And Mad Lucas.

ha. ha! but this “in heaven” is the non screaming version that they played on the recent tour that kim was singing. but then again the baby references in erasurehead could be a bit disturbing. we won’t let her see the movie until she’s at least 5.
cute baby fbc. maybe they can hang out together at the fbnet daycare.

Cool, I hope she likes it. Then again, how could she not? I think Kim has a great voice for kiddies.
I do hope to make a great dad one day. Before that though, I wanna make a great husband. Before that though, I wanna make a great boyfriend. Before that though, I wanna make a great friend.

Fumanbru, that's a beautiful picture, you have a happy and proud daddy face, your baby is lovely, you should look for a Catholics t-shirt for her too.
FBC, your sweet girl is surely growing.
Congratulations for both!
