hello fb netters! happy friday!
i wanted to share some exciting news. my wife and i recently had our first baby- alexis. a truly amazing experience! adorable little girl. the whole family is doing great.
so then i'm already on cloud 9 and i'm checking out fbnet and find out that "the man" became a dad on jan. 7th. very happy for frank and violet, but also totally blow away knowing that our little girl shares the same birthday as little jack! jan. 7th, 2005. #@!*! that brought another huge smile to my face.
and on a side note my wife's favorite number is 7. alexis was born on the 7th, and weighed in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces so that is kind of neat. i suggested a middle name of "seven", but jenny thought it may be better as a nick name.
so things are great. very busy but lots of fun. and lots to learn. anyone have any baby advice for a first time father or any baby stories. i never thought i would get so sappy but i guess that's the joy of a newborn!

Well congrats, sir (and madam through proxy). If you're a Mickey Mantle fan, "Seven" is a great name says George Kostanza.

There's nothing like a baby! Isn't "Seven" what George Costanza wanted to name his daughter? (oh, just noticing Dean already said that!).
Anyway, enjoy Alexis. I hope she has an amazing & happy life.

Hey fumanbru, my girlfriend gave birth to my little daughter (well, 9lbs) in October. she was two months old on christmas day.
Just a quick bit of advice, because I could talk babies at the moment for paragraphs and pages, your baby is such an individual that national averages and things you just throw out the window. Our little girl has been feeding loads recently, so we've been thinking about weaning already. My girlfriend called the Breast feeding Helpline back here, but they said that the average baby starts solids around 6 months, so to wait. My angel saw our mid wife yesterday, and she advises us to try rice and milk on a spoon, and some other type of food. She's now munching away on this plus her 8oz of milk. She's a milk monster. The national advice line is a joke. The average baby: my baby is not average.
Any advice, just ask. I have no where to chat my daughter as the pampers forum isn't as fun as here. we're in the same boat, the best experience of my life. I'm a dad. How weird. It's the best thing ever.
Congratulations too.

Hey fbc I had that same problem too. My son was a really big eater so that he wouldn't sleep very long at night and I wanted to give him some rice pablum earlier and capital health always said no, he can't have any solids until 6 mos. Called the pediatrician and he said that's hogwash and to always call him if I thought something the advice line told me sounded silly. Anyway after the first bite he'd lean right over frantically trying to get at the spoon!
PS. If she's such a big drinker and your wife has any ahem breast problems, feel free to email me, I had some big problems there...

Congratulations Fumanbru and Fbc, itīs the most amazing experience that a person can have, to have a little human being that is made of our own flesh and blood, I've got a son and a daughter that sometimes drive me crazy, but I couldn't imagine life without them! Enjoy them as much as you can!

She's so agressive when she feeds, it's amazing to watch. and so funny too. sometimes she'll down the bottle so fast, without taking a breathe, gums clamped so hard. when i take the bottle off her for a second, she starts to kick her little legs and flap her arms in anger,
"Where's my bottle!"
It's all so amazing, and I can say i've never laughed and smiled so much in my life.
(thankyou Rita, it was fun. making her that is. I'm blessed more than i deserve to be) |

Yeah, mine was a surprise for both of us. The tests from the chemists came up inconclusive so it was a trip to the doctors. days later, a phone call confirming we're pregnant (well my girlfriend, but you know what i mean). we had decided a few days earlier that we wanted to keep her. there was never any doubt. So that call brought great news. but scary too. it's a life changing event (shit. cliche....sorry). we lived in a happy bubble for about a week after, just getting use to the news. we're about to become a mum and dad. wow! Next. Oure Parents. oh boy. Anyway, sorry bout my life in brief: [ADVICE] you take your time, but be careful. it's worth waiting for. but you know that |

Andre of Outkast and Erykha Badu (s?) named their son Seven. (Oh, the things to be learned by reading People magazine.)
Congrats!
My only advice: there is no such thing as holding a baby too much or spoiling a baby or overindulging. In utero they are snug and warm and rocked so it's a tough transition for them to the world of air and (relative) stillness.
I spent the first few months of my daughter's life literally doing nothing but holding her, rocking her and feeding her and swaying to the more quiet Frank tunes ("Caribou," "Dog in the Sand," etc.). (I know that that much time off from work is a luxury and not a reality for many people.) One day she squirmed out and she's off exploring the world now and having a hoot.
Feel free to email if you have any questions.
I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank |

Oh yeah, she's heard havalina plenty of times, and her favourite at the moment is SMYT. It must be the frequency of Franks voice. Or that beautiful sound of a telecaster played well.
(sorry about the advice hpm, i got into that newbie father roll of dispensing unwanted words of wisdom to his mates while wetting the baby's head down the pub)
(and no, i didn't take your words the wrong way. i never do. it's cool) |

It's terrifying how everybody gets so nosey and "helpful," doling out unasked-for advice when you have a kid, especially when they discover it's your first.
I am not saying anybody here is guilty of this; I'm merely looking back on the first few weeks of my kid's life when total strangers would stop me on the street to give me (horrible) advice about weaning and letting the baby cry to sleep.

Woah no fbc, I appreciate your advice. Did my post come out all wrong again?
Really, I am always happy to learn from people who have been through experiences that I haven't. Obviously there is nothing like experiencing things for yourslef to make you learn, but it's not a bad way either. You can never learn too much.
I am genuinely glad you are still so happy about having a child, that's very important, crucial even. You do see parents who look regretful and there is nothing more sad. My heart bleeds for unloved, unwanted, and especially abused children. I mean it literally brings me to tears thinking about it. I think it was my sister having her child that brought home to me how amazing kids are when brought up in a loving enviroment, and how fucking heartwrenching it is to think of kids that don't have that.
I am gonna stop now 'cos I am gonna start crying.

I think that's the best advice. I was 18 when I had my son and sometimes I felt like he wasn't even my son. So many people telling me so many different things and really very imposing too.
So the best advice is not worrying about having to take and listen to others advice. Do what feels best and natural for you.

I couldn't have said it better myself, Carolynanna.
I hope this does not come off as condescending but I totally admire you for having a kid that young (same age as Rita). I was almost 40 and it had its own "challenges." You're lucky to have even more of your lifetime with your children.

Not at all. Thanks, really I appreciate it. I worked my ass off and I'm actually proud of myself. Became pregnant, parents tossed me out, put myself through university.

Yeah my sister was 19. It certainly helps them be so close 'cos they can relate better I think. Claire (my sister) shares some interests with Louise (her daughter/my niece) and I think that is really cool.

Carolynanna, it always floors me when I learn that parents disown their pregnant unmarried daughters. If a kid ever needs her parents, it's then! I am sorry and I hope you are damned proud of your self!

How I know how that feels...I was 18 too when I had my son, and the best thing to do is to don't worry too much, everything works out fine!
P.S. I'm very proud that sometimes people think that he's my brother (only a few...)

Carolynanna, only read this now, we have a lot in common, I went off (ran away) my parents house at the age of 17, not because of that reason, I wasn't pregnant, but all I did was by myself and my husband, and I'm very proud of that too!
