I haven't ever noticed that Simon, but let me offer an explanation anyway. Perhaps it's because when they have had a few to drink, they feel perhaps it's time to show the sexist macho men around them, that they are not as weak as they think. I know on average that women are physically weaker than men, but they are a lot stronger than a lot of men give them credit for.

Its always gross when you see footage of people's arms snapping during armwrestling matches. But its like you just can't help but look.

I saw it happen on Worlds Strongest Man a couple of years ago. I forget the name of the guy who had his arm broken, but it was Magnus Samuelsson doing the snapping.
That show is great - this year they had a deadlift event, and one guy was straining so much his nose started spewing blood everywhere.
It's cool.
