I think that if you are looking for a bluesy Frank
you would find it sooner on that album than any of the other ones

Mark Lanegan is cool though

I've yet to hear Honeycomb or Lanegans latest effort.

Ever since I listened to the Catholics first album, I've realised not to, and know better than to expect anything from an FB release. That way i could never be let down (never will be anyway, not by FB).
You want bluesy Frank. I want TOTY Frank.

Want! Want! Want!

Whatever songs he feels like writing at the time is alright by me. That's the fun of Frank. The surprise. And the song.

How can you compare it? Honeycomb it's still unfinished, but is surely better than bubblegum...

Amen.

Give it another listen eebee.
If you've known* the path Franks songs have walked over the last 3 decades, honeycomb is a beautiful place to be at, to stop and take a breather and chill for a second.
You can almost smell the flowers too.

(* i'm not saying you don't eebee, just expressing a general opinion of mine =)

They don't taste or smell like some ordinary bubblegum!

And I'm not saying that I don't like ML, but how can that be compared to Honeycomb!

Ermmmm...could be nice.
honey on toast. Now that's nice.

Franks walked some miles to get to Honeycomb. Mark Lanegan, for some reason, I never paid any attention.
Honeycomb has no comparison.

Maybe eebee started an unfair comparative here but bubblegum is an excellent album

No it's not unfair, it's cool. eebee hasn't compared anything.
Plus any FB album to me has no equal. I am quite biased like that. Blind to a point too sometimes. It's a flaw.
No album can win.

Please pray tell.

Its both upbeat and slow, both raw and smooth, both visceral and touching. It's an impressive album, I haven't heard any earlier stuff but I like this. His voice vaguely Waits ish in it's moody 'coolness' offset nicely by the female vocals. A very rounded album and worth listening to. If you are interested and not mocking me I can link you to a site where you can listen to 'tasters' of the tracks.

i'm liking BUBBLEGUM a lot. PJ Harvey and Mark Lanegan are the perfect combination..

you can download "methamphetamine blues" on amazon. one of the better tracks on the album

At first I wasn't sure about it, my initial impressions going along the lines of 'fuck me FB's gone all dire straits' because it seemed very mellow with twiddly guitar, but on second listen it had sunk in and I liked it for that very reason. It's a great evening wind down listen, and good to work to. It's quite grown up music.

'Honeycomb' 'Selkie Bride' and 'Sing for Joy' stand out to me most.

And it's Frank, the guy can SING!

I don't think though, posting about mark lanegan band in a mark lanegan thread is all too out of place.

IMHO (current), honeycomb is one of his best works.
i mean, with us being hardcore fans, there is a lot of arguments for each song and each album, and of course, we love them all. but at the end of the day, in some way TOTY shines a bit brighter than the others. and i think, honeycomb has the same kind of quality or appeal as TOTY.
