off topic: anyone see an interview with Frank on MTV some years ago somewhere on the French Riviera? He also played You Ain't Me and another song (I don't remember which). Before that the interviewer asks among other questions:
(something like) "So, what kind of music do you listen to nowadays"
"Loud, man..."
The interviewer tries again about the artists he listens to and Frank says "Ziggy"
The interviewer: "Oh, Ziggy Marley?"

I'm not a big "Monkey" fan but I quite liked it.
It's a good song after all. It's just that it's SO overrated.

thanks pixie punk for posting the mpeg.
i just watched it and having had time to
reflect, it was a very nice performance.
laid back, confident, professional.
The pixies are world class musicians.

its hard for me to watch such a subdued performance and have a lot of positive things to say about it, although even a subdued pixies performance towers above the crap most other bands do. I just want to see Frank put his heart into it and go off.

Thanks for posting the link to the mpeg pixie punk.

I thought it was a good performance....and I don't think Paul over did the keyboards. It was a little addition and just provided a nice seperation from the album version which I've already heard too many times.

I also agree that Monkey is an overrated Pixies tune.....wouldn't make my top 20 Pixies songs.

i don't know if i'd say monkey is overrated as opposed to overplayed - its one of the few pixies songs that i've heard charles do more than once w/o the pixies

Floop, I have chewed Hawken in my life....but the last time was probably at least 10 years ago. Nasty stuff. I am not a tabbacco chewer, just did it for a few months when I couldn't smoke in HS. No longer a smoker either.

Maybe I was kinda harsh. I've never ever seen'em live on t.v. or anywhere else so this was my live intro to'em. They all looked really nervous. I guess I'd be too in front of all them lights and cameras. They ought to change their name to Three baldys and a Soccer mom. I never thought Kim was that cute but she looked pretty adorable here. Oh and how about Franks leather trail-duster coat. That thing was huge!

i saw.
the interviewer was a young german "Boris", i think
he also asked "How was it touring with U2?" and Frank said something like "I was flying the jet" Boris said "Oh, u were the pilot?" And Frank said "no no, during the U2 show I was flying the jet"
something like this...
also beed asked if he like Dance music... and Frank said that he likes to get on the floor...
It was obvious Boris had no clue who is Frank, and quite sad actually.
It was not a unique interview for those days, so we should greatly appreciate that these days if u work in the media u can't be that ignorant about Pixies.

The thing is: They (the pixies) did not try to please us (the die hard fans). Ok, they (I mean he) may have their (his) reasons, I do not criticize...
They played a good song, catchy almost popular one. Did they try to convince new people? Tv is the occasion... Do you think, beside the fact they played a "potential hit" that they did what they had to do to convince new people in term of performance? (That's an actual question because I have not seen it).
From these facts and questions what objective conclusion do you draw?

You have 1 hour...

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet or not...

...but after the second time I saw it, there's a shot of Lovering at the end of the song where he stands up, claps his hands together twice and spreads his arms in the way a magician would after an amazing slight of hand trick. Classic.

It was my favorite part of the performance.

Decent performance...you can kinda tell they're just in a routine. It's kinda hard to get into a song when you play it every night, yunno?

was David wearing leather pants?
