So to say that seeing the Pixies at Hammersteins last night was a great show would be a bit of an understatement. Perhaps the defining moment of my past sixteen years? Probably. You could say that I was Blown Away. Doors opened at six thirty, and I got there at about a quarter to seven. After quickly visting the bathroom, I found a spot and didn't budge for the next five hours or so. If one were standing at the entrance of Hammerstein's, looking toward the stage, I was all the way to the left, pressed against the metal rail. My face was turned over my right shoulder, with a perfect view of the stage. Accordingly though, with my turned head, my left ear was perfectly alligned with a speaker that was blasting bass drum into my head. TV on the Radio, the opener was mixed quite loudly, and with each pound of the bass drum, I could feel my teeth shaking. They played an enjoyable set, and as much as I was in pain, I liked them. The Pixies entered the stage at about 9:15, and the rest of the night was a dream. I was about ten feet from Joe, 15 from Charles, and Kim was on the opposite side of the stage. Although the setlist is still fuzzy, I remeber the highlights being Winterlong, Subbacultcha, Head On, and Mister Grieves. Besides the music being ace, the band seemed genuinely happy, especially Kim and Charles, both of whom were grinning for good parts of the performance. Joe was tops on Vamos, offering us some dance moves and a photo op. I was a bit disapointed by just a one song encore (Gigantic) but must say that I have no complaints from the show. I'm still coming down off of my Pixies high, so I'm sure that I've left out quite a bunch that other members can fill in. I'll update a bit more when I can remember what was post-worthy.

Edit: I just remembered, the other two great moments of the night were on Dead, when Kim and I made contact. I waved at her, and she smiled at me. The semi-traditional "Goodnight Ceremony" in which each member said good night to each other on stage was heart warming. They all seemed so friendly and happy, it makes me glad to see that months of touring hasn't taken a huge toll on all of their relationships, at least it would appear that it hasn't.

I'm afraid that this will be the last of it. I'm doing my best to find a way to the midnight show next Saturday, but I doubt it will happen.

Today's (Mon. 12/13) New York Times gave a rave review to the Saturday show. Sir Rock, where in the top photo are you?

Speaking of brief Kim interaction, at the end of the show when they were doing their very heartfelt thank yous and goodbyes Kim was waving "bye bye" as she walked back and forth. The crowd mostly had their arms outstretched in standard rock show pose. I, being pressed up at the front of the stage, for some reason waved "bye bye" back to Kim, which in retrospect was a strange thing to do. She saw that and was like "What?" and completely cracked up.

Also, earlier is seemed like she laughed when I caught her eye and yelled "Bam Thwok" but I'm not sure if she actually knwe what I as saying.

So, although I'm not pictured, my flailing arms and head can be found right to the left of the edge of that photograph. If you follow Joey's line of sight, he'd be looking right at me.

That's great to know, Sir Rock. Don't you feel like that is where you belong,
in a "I could stay here forever" place?! Sigh...
