I really like the fact that they play jazz and James Bond-esque music before the Pixies' set. I found it was the perfect thing between Mission of Burma and them to give my ears a rest and get me ready for more rock music. It lasted just a little too long which was perfect because I was aching to hear some noise when the Pixies started.
Yeah, they were playing some really funny, upbeat stuff between the bands. I caught a glimpse of Kelley Deal hanging out next to the stage, and she started bopping along to the music which was cute. That dramatic entrance music the pixies had was about as over-the-top and funny as everything else about their set :).
The recording I heard from Camden had them coming out to the theme from The Taking of Pelham 123, some of the best movie score music ever. Great choice.
When the band took the stage last October at their Dallas-area show, Link Wray's "Rumble" played. Do they have different "walkin' on stage" music on different nights?
As for the music played between the opening act and the Pixies, from that show I recall mostly a mix of Bob Dylan and old blues recordings (pre-WWII sounding stuff). I remember remarking to my sis that it struck me as the kinda stuff Frank might've chosen.
