Happy New Year to y'all. With any luck, HONEYCOMB should be out by the middle of the year.
Glad you liked "Oddballs." Those of you who favor the song "Men In Black" might check out the version we did earlier in NY, available only on the HEADACHE EP and the French version of TOTY (which is where "Oddballs" -- the song -- originally surfaced). For the record. |

And a Happy New Year to you too Mr.J.Tiven.
I presume you're THE Jon Tiven credited with a thankyou on the CoR record. If it's not too much trouble, have you any nice little insights into this release. Especially Men In Black! |

As I'm the only Jon Tiven, it's most likely me.
We cut a bunch of songs for EP release right after TOTY and one of them was "Men In Black." So I guess that's why I was thanked. It's a great version, very spirited. Band was kicking, and we did it really quickly. I think there were five songs cut in all, including the stripped down "Headache." They're all on the EPs. Engineer was Jimmy Douglass, who is now very active as the engineer for Timberland and Missy Elliot. Studio was Studio 900, which doesn't exist anymore, was sold this year and dismantled.
best, JT |

thanks for the reply Jon. Another one if you don't mind, just so intrigued. When did you first get involved with Charles (if I can call him that, round here he's Mr. Black to me)?

Are you sure you are the one and only Jon Tiven? Cause I know this guy here in Paris who swears he is the real Jon Tiven.
This is very confusing.

I have never been to Paris but I kinda like the Beatles.
My first Frank/Charles involvement began in 1993 or 94 when I was making the Otis Blackwell tribute album and he consented to sing "Handyman" and "Breathless" on it, continuing with the EP tracks and the Arthur Alexander tribute.
Dear Monsieur, if you are being serious than you must set the fellow straight and tell him he is full of merde. Do not be confused. It is very easy to tell the real me from the fraud. Just pull out your secret decoder ring and type in the following formula: ~ minus # plus &* Then you can ask my imposter if he has the answer, and if he does not respond that the square of the hair is equal to the cube of the pube, it is not the real Jon Tiven.
Happy New Year! best, JT |

Frank sure does those songs justice.
The Handyman is one of my all time faves (my mums too, but the original I'm guessing). Franks covered songs for his albums, I always wanted this to have been on one. I don't think I've heard your version, just the Black Sessions: live in Paris and the John Peel sessions with Teenage Fanclub. Would be a nice listen. |

Announcement
Just can't get enough of this song at the mo, it's one I used to regularly overlook. Love the vocals in the background at the end. |

I'm suppose to be working from home, but I'm finding things in Franks music I never realised were there. So this contracts on hold. I'm bad. I'm doing justice and paying homage to an album I never really gave a chance back in the day, Black Letters Day.

last song was farewell bend, which i recently did a 30 second cover of (due to me being unable to record ANYTHING for more than 30 seconds). great song. as a shitty guitarist, i am quite proud of myself for being able to play it. quite tricky, anyone agree? |

Remake/Remodel
I listened to it twice earlier today. I woke-up with it in my head and I can't get it out.
Great guitar and great vocals (e.g., "I could talk, talk, talk, talk, myself to death, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, but I believe I would only lose my breath"...)
And, what in the hell does "C P L 5 9 3 H" mean and why is it in the song? |

Been hammering that song for the last couple of days. Re-re-rediscovering it.

(me. haven't yet tried it with Nashville tuning, should sound real nice)
back from the pub, back on the surf - Fiddle Riddle as I type
don't know if it's right, but I like the acoustic run at the end. i always think of a ticking metronome ticking to the last notes of this song, nodding my head side to side as it comes to it's pretty end.
ooo..here comes Mulholland

I'm a wishbone And I'm breaking Yeah, I'm wishing for Adda Lee And the lake sings And the dogs don't They are quiet for Adda Lee Adda Lee
I'm sorry and I miss you And away I went away Cause I wished I was away I wished I was away A wishing well Of well wishing And Adda waves away Adda waves away Heroine of the stars I don't know where I am But I know who you are
Adda Lee Adda Lee And she whispered And she left me a man For the world Adda Lee Oh, Adda Lee Oh, Adda Lee
Actually, I made a mix CD of Frank Black's first three solo albums. It is heavy on the self titled album and then a few "Cult of Ray" and "Teenager.." on there to. I tell you what, it was the hardest CD I ever had to make, SO MANY great songs to choose from.

Constant Sorrow Man
This is one that really jumped out at me on about the 4th-5th listen.
Now I can't get it out of my head, so, you know what they say, "if you can't beat Frank, then listen to Frank." So I'm listening to it again now. |

I'm like Jefry, listening to "Manitoba" everytime I get in the car. That song sounds especially good on a snowy evening around sunset. |

Absolutely!!! I love it more all the time. Is it me, or does it remind anyone else of that "Frank Black Rarity" that was posted alwhile back "Rock-A Party"
Oh yeah....I am also listening to surf epic. |
