Ok, this'll sound strange.

I'm making a makeshift Pixies box set for myself, (and possibly some friends for Xmas), and besides the obvious songs... what would you suggest for inclusion if such a thing were to ever come out? I mean, of course we'd all want the alternate Trompe mixes, but also considering what's already out there, what demos, b-sides and live tracks would you suggest as uber-necessary?

Any help is appreciated.

I'd say Into the White and Winterlong are essential b-sides.

I'd say it should include "Hey - A Tribute to the Pixies".

"Just kill the one with the sword first."
"Ah," Reagan says, raising his waxed and penciled eyebrows, and cocking his pompadour in Shaftoe's direction. "Smarrrt--you target them because they're the officers, right?"
"No, fuckhead!" Shaftoe yells. "You kill 'em because they've got fucking swords! You ever had anyone running at you waving a fucking sword?"

Certainly not! I can't play music to save my life.

It's sort of a rarity, though, isn't it? And it's pretty darn cool too.

According to my sources, charlesthompson, I've Been Wating For You is actually a Niel Young cover. Bowie did cover the song, interestingly enough, after the Pixies did it. I second the motion though, I love the song.

The original version of Brick Is Red and a 2004 live version of Where Is My Mind. I think that song has taken on a life of its own.

Yes the thing... I agree... I think the whole catalogue would be wonderful ... instead of a track here and a track there... just to have it all in one place remastered (if possible and if it makes a difference) in it's own beautiful box on my mantle (ok I don't have a mantle.. but in an important spot)... of course it would be in order chronologically...

dayanara... into the white... definately if I had to pick just one b side... what a wonderful tune!!

I always loved "The Thing" off the b-sides collection. It's a very... pretty song (for lack of a better description).

"I Can't Forget" is a fantastic cover of a Leonard Cohen tune.

"Bam Thwock" should go on there just for the sake of having a sort of a contrast between then and now.

If you put "Build High" or "Subbacultcha" on there, I'd suggest doing the versions off of The Purple Tape.

And, in my mind, "Boom Chicka Boom" is essential. I never understood why they never included that onto an album, it's such a rockin' song.

(Sorry to ramble, just one thing after another comes to mind)
And some of the more underrated songs, "Motorway To Roswell," "Born In Chicago," "There Goes My Gun," "La La Love You," and "Is She Weird."

Ok, I'm done.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I have a pretty good idea of how I'll go about it now, and I'll get to work on it sometime next week. I'll post the tracklist here when I'm done as well.

Surfer Rosa (plus era-b-sides/rairities/demos bonus disc)
1988 Live Show
Doolittle (plus era-b-sides/rairities/demos bonus disc)
1989 Complete Live Show (perhaps the infamous backwards alphabetical set)
Bossanova (plus era-b-sides/rairities/demos bonus disc disc)
1990 Complete Live Show (w/ Bob Santiago)
Trompe Le Monde (plus era-b-sides/rairities/demos bonus disc)
1991/2 Complete Live Show (w/ Eric Drew and Jefrey Feldman)
FULL BBC Sessions (not the album released, but really all their BBC stuff)
Rairities EP (Bam Thwok, Ain't That Pretty, other things that don't fit into the scheme of the bonus discs)
FBF Disc 2
First Reunited Show
