Yeah, I can't think of a single complaint so far, and I've tried. I love the gravity gun, good times! 'specially when you encounter a saw blade that happens to be lying around for some reason. There's nothing that beats using the gravity gun to slice through like five of the commandeered corpses wandering around.

I have a feeling I'm near the end though I could continue playing this game for quite sometime if I didn't have to sleep/work and it didn't demand all my free time at home. I just finished the Nova Projekt and am on to Entanglement. The latest weapon involves having an army at your beck and call, which I'd say possibly rivals or even beats the gravity gun.

This may be the most revolutionary fps since Wolf 3d.

To those folk that have bought HL2...

Do you think it would be possible to install the game on somebody else's PC, register it with valve and then re-install the game with the registered steam thingymajig on a different pc?

Unfortunately, without the crack, I don't think so. Your best bet, in my mind, would be to buy the game and download the no-steam crack.

Yes, this is possible and without cracks too. Not to contradict Deaner or anything.

Here how.

1. register an account with Steam.
2. buy HL2 content and DL it to PC #1.
3. install Steam on PC #2
4. log into your existing Steam account on PC #2. If PC #1 is still connected to your Steam account, logging onto another PC will disengage it.
5. re-download all the HL2 content onto PC #2. Steam won't care how many times you do this. It's just that you won't be able to run more than one copy at the same time, since only one Steam account can be active at a time.

That's what I'm doing since I couldn't wait for my new PC to arrive to play HL2. I'm certainly not going to shell out another $60.

Yes, you're right. I forgot Scarla's dilemma. Well Scarla, if you don't have internet access, then I'd say you're shit out of luck. I knew this friend who fretted about not being able to see all the extra features on DVD rentals. His solution: buying a DVD player.

Just finished it last night. I really wasn't ready for it to end although I did know the end was near long before it actually was near. If that makes sense.

Great game! I'm really dying to discuss the ending with someone, but I don't want to ruin it for anyone either. Might be the second video game in history to have a good ending, the first being Grim Fandango.

How many hours did you spend? Seems like you zipped right through.

I just exited Ravenholm, so I'm taking my sweeeet time (in "normal" difficulty) checking everything out.

Probably in the neighbourhood of 12-15 hours... I played it on medium, too, no rushing. But I have a long fps history. We had a citywide Doom competition back in the day which I won.

So in short, I'm awesome. Or an antisocial loser. Whichever.

I want to take back something I said earlier. The gravity gun is, without a doubt, the greatest weapon in FPS history. Or certainly on par with Jedi powers.

I've always thought of you as an Awesome Loser.

The gravity gun does rock. I love that I can pick stuff up from a pretty fair distance. It's very handy, it's a decent ammo saver, and a great stocking stuffer!!

I really wish I could tell what the creative team at id software thinks of Half Life 2. Do they feel owned, I wonder? What does it feel like to be bested at the genre you created by a company that started out using your technology? It must be weird.

I imagine it's a little like being a dad and teaching your son how to play ball only to watch him grow up to be far better than you ever were.

BTW, PixieSteve, I laughed out loud at your comment.

about 12 hours til i get to play!

system:

athlon 64 3200+
512mb DDR RAM
Radeon 9200SE 128mb

graphics card i'll get by end of week: radeon 9800 pro 128mb. which is about 10 times better.

anyone have an idea as to how low my settings will have to be to get a good performance with my current card? hopefully not the lowest. i almost feel like i don't want to play until i get the new card because i want the whole experience to be as good as it can be. but then again, i've waited long enough.

I have that card (9800 pro), it's great. I'd be most concerned with your RAM. 1 GB will make a huge diff. With the 92 and that much ram, probably lowest.

you reckon the lowest then? i'll have to see.

i'm clear of all the minimum specs (9200 is directx 8.1).

man. i hate the amount of money involved in something like this. £140 odd for card. £40 odd for new PSU because my current ones not powerful enough for the new card. now you've got the idea into my head to buy more RAM... another £60. I should have thought about this earlier and asked for some of that for my birthday!

I have that exact setup, Steve, but with 1GB of RAM (and the 9800Pro), and the game runs like fucking butter with all the settings on high. There are very rare moments (like, tons of activity or a big, wide view of the world) when it dips in performance, otherwise it's smooth as glass. I highly suggest you double your RAM.

As far as Doom 3 vs Half-Life 2 goes, I think id stated that they never meant to do anything revolutionary with the game...it was supposed to be a straight up shooter. It's so very dull.

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.

I picked this game up yesterday and I'm having a helluva lot of trouble with the parts where you have to stack shit up to try to reach on a jump. I just went through this part where I killed a bunch of those face hugger things and a few zombies with them on their faces then I passed a live wire then crawled under some debri and this earthquake happened and blocked my way. Now I'm stuck as all hell and getting very frustrated, I back tracked and I think I need to get on top of these little shanty type things and I'm trying to stack things to get on the roofs but I've gone at this for about 45 minutes and no luck. Arggh I hope I don't have to do this shit too often.

It's not very often in the game you have to stack things to get up. Most likely there's a vent or some such not-so-obvious hidden access that you're missing.

Yeah I found it now, always makes you feel dumb when shit like that happens. It's always so simple to get through where you're stuck but you never notice until you've nearly started throwing shit around the room.

Irregardless of all this when I'm through with the single player Half Life 2 we should all get together and play some Counter Strike: Source if you guys are up to it. It seems it'll be a lot more fun with people you've at least interacted with in some way before.

Man half life 2 is the best game ive ever played. They were really good at creatin a story line which forces your mind to ponder and try to figure it all out when your not playing the game. That really allows the game to be appealing and a hell of alot of fun. Now about the ending...I dont know, there are alot of questions to this sequel...
At least we know a few things..
Administrator from half life is the same guy in half life 2 who wanted the resonance cascade to happen.
Adminsistrator is not really human any more, hes got some parasite inside him or something
G man can control time or is in Gordons head most of the time (i side with the inside head idea)
G man's employers are....well who knows
Xen was most likely once at war with the combine, and i would say won eventually...
Administrator knew of the combine world back in half life 1

How about this little trick.
1. Sign up with any Internet Provider that offers a trial period, usually 30 days.
2. Log on said Internet Provider and register your copy of HL2.
3. Call up said Internet Provider before the trial period ends and cancel your subscription without paying a dime.

Happy gaming.
