Came on last night, got called over by a sweet looking little old man. I'm holding his hand and listening patiently to what he has to say, because I'm a fucking caring and compassionate nurse, right? So out he comes with, "I need someone to trim my fingernails. My shits been so hard lately that I have to dig it out." Great.

15 minutes later I'm being chased down the hall by a 200 lb dude with dementia. He's holding a chair above his head and screaming, "Get the poo off me! Get the POO off my head!"

Around 4 AM someone threw up on my shoe.

I'm the most cynical person on the planet but I was totally awed by the nurses when I spent a week in the hospital. Their kindness and caring changed me. Now I'm among the top 10 most cynical people on the planet. Seriously, you guys do yeoman's work and rarely get the credit.

I don't agree Kathryn. But maybe it's just me and my relationship with our evil nurses.

You're talking about nurses where you work, right, Whore? Co-workers can be a drag, I know.

Heh, where do you work at Whore? I can deal with really sick people, as I usually work at a large hospital in the PACU. But I recently screwed up my back and needed a part-time "easy does it" job. This is what I get, and the worst part is that it pays so much better than my old job. If you're having a seizure and spitting blood at me and limbs are falling off, I'm cool with that. I'll be the best nurse you've ever had. But dear god, old people with gross hygeine practices are NOT for me. I'm wearing gloves for everything now, lord only knows what they've covered themselves with.

I had some pretty stupid nurses when I broke my collarbone.
I was swearing as the doctor was poking and proding at my bone, not uncontrollably but it fuckin hurt. They asked me to watch my language...So I broke their collarbones.

He is in the music business, he is calling you DUDE!

I wasn't talking about nurses doing their job at hospitals. I was talking about our corrupted public health care system. Politically corrupted. And about all those medicine professionals earning lots of money while drinking their coffees or chatting via MSN Messenger or surfing around the net looking for soft porn sites. I was talking about that.

I know you're doing a great job, dayanara. I wouldn't be able to do it.

don't forget smoking endless cigarettes

and to be fair, health service coffee is atrocious

When I worked in an old peoples home on a night there would usually be four of us on, this home was pretty big. One night I'm working my way through the second floor on the nappy-run and this sweet old lady with terrible dementia comes running into the bathroom wearing only her cardign and her underwear screaming "I need a toilet I need a toilet" now the bathroom is just that, a room with a bath in it, the old dear actually has an en suite and had come a long way to go tearing up and down the coridoor, unable to hold her self any longer she lifted the lid to the clinical waste bin pulled down her pants and shit on the floor. I know it's awful but the head nurse and I had to leave the room at this point because of the horrendous fit of giggles that hit us both.

It was absolutely the WORST place I have ever worked.

Oh, and we have great coffee machines here. Hard to believe, but true. It isn't that bad, after all.

Mmmmm... I don't remember the difference between spanish and portuguese coffee. But I still remember my painful stomach ache at the Viana do Castelo pastelaria.

Goodnight everybody!

Your coffee is much stronger, but you must have been to a bad pastelaria, because in Viana there are very good patelarias...everywhere I think!

And goodnight to you, I must go too...time to watch the Sopranos.

I am sorry that it was such a hard day dayanara. That would put anyone right near the edge. It's so important to feel appriciated and respected and from what I saw when I was recovering from surgery is that so many people are either completely rude or completely crazy acting towards the nurses.

I feel bad for the nurses assistants because they get stuff with all these bad jobs... this one guy had to spend most of the night holding a bucket for me to puke into.

When I was there... they loved me becasue I was like "please" and "thank you" it paid off because they would get me extra drinks and blankets and stuff. When I had to go back after being released... the nurse in the er remembered me and so did the nurse who was figuring out where I would go in the ward... so since I was a polite person... they gave me a small room to myself for free. Very cool!

Anyway... for every person that is weird/crazy there is someone like me glad to have a nice nurse like you dayanara.

No, no. It was an amazing pastelaria, but I ate too much for a breakfast.

So, you´re the problem...not the pastelerias. You shouldn´t eat so many sweets for breakfast!

Thank you, Whore. Thank you for reminding those who might get that reference that I got shitfaced on cheap rojo on the ferry en route to your beautiful island and spent my whole week's vacation hungover. Yep, the week-long Mallorca hangover lives on, thank you.
