I've never actually seen any of Lynch's work (I probably should look into that), but I've heard that his films and shows have a lot of people talking about donuts. I think I also recall hearing that the guy who wrote the lyrics to "In Heaven" was killed in a donut shop.

lynch can be hard to take sometimes...he's got a weird obsession with women characters set in 50s style fashions that are self-motivated and unrepressed, especially sexually...freud with an attitude would just suggest he sleep with him mom and get it all over with in order to find some more things to make movies about.

I remember thinking the lyrics about "in Heaven, everything is fine" sounded familiar, but I wasn't quite able to place them. Then I remembered that they were from a Pixies song. (Well, okay, it wasn't ORIGINALLY a Pixies song, but that was how I knew it.)

Ivers co-wrote "The Lady in The Radiator Song" (In Heaven). He was murdered in his home.
Jack Nance, the actor who portrayed Henry in Eraserhead, died from wounds sustained in a brawl with some hoodlums a few blocks from his home just after buying some coffee (and perhaps donuts).

I also noticed it and it made me smile when i first heard this song sometime last year. I love Eraserhead and this song.

| Huh. I never noticed it either. I just last week realized that "In Heaven" was in Eraserhead; they screened the film here in Memphis Friday by agreement with Lynch himself. I hadn't seen it in 15 years or so, since long before I got into the Pixies. |

Two days ago, I pulled out FB&C for the first time in a long while. "I Gotta Move" came on and I listened with those "new" ears you get when you haven't heard a song for ages. Finally figured out what Peter Radiator was all about on the verse mentioned above. Mumbled "that's about Eraserhead, innit?"
Then this topic. Wow.
I didn't know the weird guy on Twin Peaks (was there only one?) and the Eraserhead character were the same actor. Furthermore, I had no idea the man had died. Answers my longstanding question of "is the man as abrasive in real life?"
Apparently so. RIP Mr. Nance.
Thanks, Frank, for the ultimate alt. rock indulgence -- Writing a relatively obscure rock song that references a relatively obscure post-punk song (that he wrote) that references a relatively obscure art-house film.
If Pavement had done that, we'd all be wretching. But they didn't, so we like it!

| Those interested in more about Jack Nance, his life and death, might wanna check out a documentary called I Don't Know Jack (the DVD easily rentable through Netflix). It's got it's flaws, but fans of his or fans of David Lynch might find it worth a look. |

I know this topic is a couple of days old, but it held a couple of big surprizes for me, firstly the Peter Ivers thing-I think I half-realised a connection before, but the radiator reference did'nt click. Secondly, that Jack Nance from Twin Peaks is the main guy in Eraserhead-wow! Sad to hear he died, especially that it was'nt natural causes. On the subject of David Lynch, I watched Mulholland Drive twice in the last while-still can't completely figure it out(the DVD has a list of clues to unravel the mystery, have to check that again).
