Hi kids. KingofSiam gave me the go-ahead to add a bunch of stuff into the links sticky in the general FB forum. A lot of the ones up there now are broken, which leads me to ask: is it better to post the link and also cut/paste the content of the article? I hate to see all that stuff get lost into the great internet abyss never to be heard from again when the refering sites take the text down. The problem is, of course, that it would probably clog the hell out of the thread and make it super long and tough to dig through. I'm planning on going back into all the archives on the forum and reposting the stuff I find in there to make it easier for people looking for articles and whatever. Any suggestions on making it user friendly? Suggestions in general?

Yeah, well I guess no one reads this part of the board. Then they'll get what they get and I'd better not hear any bitchin!

Sorry, I took the weekend mostly off. Posting the content itself is a good idea, as you say, links tend to disappear. You doing this would be much appreciated.

Well, I really like the way KingOfSiam has it now - categorized with links. But I'd like to subcategorize it a little further. And instead of linking to the original source, I want to link to a subpage that I'll create with just the text (and maybe any pictures the original had), and then on that page have a link to the primary website. That way we'll still have the text if the original page goes down. I hope that made sense.
I think that if I just post links with the text directly under them (like we do in the FB news and Pixies news forums) it will be really messy and damn near impossible to find what you're looking for. We're talking about many, probably hundreds of documents here. I want to do something that will be fun and super-easy for people to browse through if they're looking for something specific.
Does anyone have suggestions on good FREE webhosting services? I really don't want to use something shitty like geocities or whatever. Something reliable that will be around for a long time. I don't think I'd need that much space since it will be mostly text, but I'll need to be able to create a ton of pages. Me no good at internet stuff, learning as I go.

altervista is the best free host (trust me i've tried most of them) they give you 200mb for free and they have no pop ups or ad banners whatsoever. only flaw is that it's italian and they want all pages translated. a turn around would be to create a bi-lingual home page and maintain the content pages just in english. PM if u need a hand.
PS: if you search my archived posts you should find a post were i had grouped 40-50 fb related links

Dayna, perhaps we can set something up for you in terms of you posting the content here but still doing it the way you're saying (basically an articles database). Let me talk to Dave as he would have to do all the coding. Then you won't have to worry about hosting and this is something we've been looking at for awhile.

Cool beans, Dean. Definitely let me know what you guys decide. I know right now the interviews link takes you to the bio section on the main page, maybe we can stick it in there. And Mun Chen, that's exactly what I'm talking about. There's so much great stuff out there, but unless you're really nuts (I am) you're probably not gonna spend hours looking for it. I want to do a section for just COR reviews, just FBF reviews, just Pixie-era interviews, etc etc. I know FB likes to read all his album reviews, so how neat would it be if we had it all organized for him? There's gobs of them floating all over the place and no ones really put it all together yet.

What we'll probably do if we get something going is have a searchable database where articles/reviews are indexed by subject. So looking for articles on the Pixies reunion is the same as on Cult or Ray or Honeycomb or whatever. I'd like to do it as some sort of wiki thing, but we shall see...
