this isn't a new release but i saw this again last night at one of the art house theatres

this is probably the most intense horror film i've ever seen, and probably the best film of 2000.

if you have a chance to see it in the theatre you should. if not, there's always DVD.

anyone else seen it?

not for the feint of heart (there were several walk-outs at the screening last night)

Oops. What I meant to say was - is this the movie about fluffy kittens and warm cookies?

I watched Audition a few months ago. The scenes with the girl waiting next to the phone were brilliantly creepy. The best moments of the film. I can understand people walking out at the last scene. It was pretty hard to stomach.

The "hero" was wrong in the way he picked out the girl but I couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy, he gets punished far more than he deserves.

Good film if you can stand to watch.

I liked it.
I thought it was pretty funny too. (I don't remember which parts. I saw it 2 or 3 years ago.)

Feint of heart. Most interesting typo I've seen today.

--

Moving from the clown to the jester will mean moving from similar to same, from alike to identical, from comparable to analogous. Though applied differently, the colours used on one can be used on another, and a couple of changes of costume will rapidly transform the jester into a clown and the clown into a jester. Strictly speaking, they almost duplicate each other as regards clothes and function, the only difference between them, from a social point of view, is that clowns do not usually visit the palaces of kings.

there's some very funny stuff in it. in the black comedy vein of course. Takeshi Miike is one of my favorite directors right now. all his stuff is crazy.

i think AUDITION is by far his best film though. it's brilliant the way he sets it up as this romantic comedy (for almost the first half of the film) and then . . . it goes in a horrible horrible direction.

and the way he weaves in all the dream stuff and the not dream stuff near the end.. very poetic

I'm downloading it.
I've noticed lately that the movies I want to see are based on floop's recommendations. Sad, isn't it?

I guarantee there will be a Hollywood remake in the next few years, and it will be anything from slightly worse to much worse than it's predecessor.

Japanese Horror is the new French New Wave, it seems. I liked Audition but there were some goofy moments in it. Just like there were in Ringu. I liked The Ring better so we'll see what the Hollywood version is like: Single Yellow Female or something.

The American versions of Japanese horror films are shit. Their version of Ring lost all of the atmosphere and they included some shitting side plot about horses.

I saw The Grudge (US version) last night and it wasn't scary at all! Everyone in the cinima was laughing, especially at that weird burping noise over the phone. And the creept ghost with hair over her face has been done quite a few times now.

I heard that theres also going to be a US version of Dark Water. I might give that one a miss.

Going back on topic i really liked Audition, the way the tension built up over the course of the film was fantastic, although i did find that final scene really hard to watch. I'm sure that any western version would tone down the violence.

Jennifer Connelly is in it. i might give that one a go.

it's directed by the guy who did THE MOTERCYCLE DIARIES, Walter Salles.

I really want to see Audition. I am gonna buy The Eye on DVD too 'cos I saw it in HMV the other day in the '2 4 1' deal. I also want to see Dark Water, is it any good? How does it rate alongside Ring and The Grudge (the Jap versions)?

Help me! He keeps making me post!
