I agree with all the pixie and black francis openers but everyone forgot modest mouse-"lonesome and crowded west" and "building nothing out of something" have great openers and also The Shins and Elliot Smith self titled cd

All Pixies and Frank Black are very good,
Caribou - Pixies
Nadine - Frank Black
Changes - David Bowie
If there´s a heaven above - Love and Rockets
Red Indians - Felt

...Love, love, ain't this enough
Pushing around
To find little comfort in words
But words
Well they cannot love
Don't waste them like that
Cus they'll bruise you more

Captain Pasty (because of that 'awwwwww' thing at the beginning)
Sweet Adeline - Elliot Smith (Xo)
He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot - Grandaddy (The Sophtware Slump)
Soft as Snow (But Warm Inside) - My Bloody Valentine (Isn't Anything)
You Are a Runner and I Am My Father's Son - Wolf Parade (Apologies to the Queen Mary)

I know I'm missing a bunch (King of Carrot Flowers, Debaser, Your Ex-Lover Is Dead, not to mention all the FB songs I neglected) but that was five, right?

2+2=5 - Hail to the Thief / Radiohead
Girls and Boys - Parklife / Blur
Disorder - Unknown Pleasures / Joy Division
Vicious - Transformer / Lou Reed
Did You See The Words - Feels / Animal Collective

It's not that they're particularly fantastic songs or anything, I just feel they set off each respective album very well.
