I saw Sugar Ray for free at the mall once.
I still wanted some sort of refund.

Well Sigor Ros had me totally spellbound. I think that is the word I would use.
It will never be my favourite gig of all time (that will always be Pixies I reckon), but it was the most impressive in terms of overall performance (including the amazing lighting - the best I have ever seen live).
I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

Did they still have the amazing visuals with the birds on a wire and all that? That was great: I loved how they didn't time the birds flying off with the climax of the song, but timed it exactly to match the crowd cheering. Really well done.

The visuals were great, the bird on a wire was lovely. Very simple, very sweet. I think the one with the electricity pylon and the storm was my favourite though.
The one with the kid was just freaky though. |

mostly I'm compensating for not being able to go to Destroyer tonight.

well i'm going to see them shortyl, and i think it'll be a good show. not very excited about their new cd, but hopefully they'll play lots of older stuff.
but yes, they are actually quite bombastic in concert - only going from live cd's and dvd's that is. i'm going to get very drunk first, which may or may not help.

The Minus 5 show was excellent. Not only was the music great, but Scott McCaughey made a lot of amusing comments in between songs. I got autographs from Scott and Peter Buck (although, since I didn't think to bring an album or anything, they're just on a piece of notebook paper).

The Evens gig I went to last weekend was pretty funny. Ian MacKaye (Fugazi, Minor Threat) is straight edge isn't he?(uhhh), so there was no drink. The venue was a community hall in a pretty dodgy part of Dublin. There was a good crowd but it was in this brightly lite, stuffy hall with pictures of Jesus on the walls. Mr. MacKaye wanted people to sing along, and with people with thier kids there (which I had no problem with, one of them was even a really good heckler) ,it felt more like going to mass then a gig. All that said, the music was really interesting. Amy Farina on vocals & drums sounded great and it really made me want to pick up some of thier stuff. Refreshments consisted of Ribena and iced buns.
black, it was always black...... |
