Ooh, just the mention of Ferris Bueller in the other thread set this one off - I love the eighties. I'm going to have to nominate Highlander and the Breakfast Club as being infinitely cheesy but hugely enjoyable.

Also, Romeo & Juliet with ol' Leo and Claire. I don't know if this is considered credible now or not, but I love it to bits.

Yeah ... cheezy 80's movies rock.... 16 Candles is great.. I guess I would also have to vote for Ghostbusters and ET... there are so many other good but cheezy ones too...

Big Business with Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin. Vintage stinky cheese.

But whenever, as scholars sometimes do, I turned my back on books, declaring them to be the graveyards of the language, and sought contact with the simple folk, I encountered the little cannibals who lived in our building, and after brief association with them, felt very glad to get back to my reading in one piece.

Ooh now, Highlander is one thing, the sequels are pushing it a little. But yeah, Ghostbusters rules.

Oh, That labyrinth movie was great. But you can't say cheesy to the Princess Bride, heretic.

And "Young Sherlock Holmes"? What was the name of that Cyndi Lauper movie? That was cheesy for sure.

and i say that Ferris Bueller, Highlander, Breakfast Club are not cheesy (whatever it means). Neither are cheesy Woman In Red, Wargames, Meatballs, Mad Max, Weird Science, Naked Gun or Ghostbusters. i love that kind of 80's stuff.

This is really difficult - most of the eighties and my childhood was pure cheese. I think we need to confess to recent releases which are cheesy.

A real cheesy one, Preety in Pink, my husband always makes fun of me because I went to watch it when I was about 13 and I liked it a lot!

Do you remember that:

"National Lampoon's Animal House"
My father's fave. I saw it a thousand times when I was a kid. It's Educational!

And "The Blues Brothers", and "Little Shop of Horrors". Amazing movies in the 80's.

Since this is called Cheesy Movies, I must vote for Dirty Dancing which I rabidly LOVED growing up. Perfect movie for a 14 year old girl!

Its one thing for a 14 year old, but I know 30 odd year old girls who still watch that on a regular basis. That movie is so awful.

I saw it recently and I was like "Good Lord, this is HORRIBLE!" I had no idea when I was younger. Heh.

Mannequin

and

Less Than Zero

two of the most awful films, not just of the 80's, but of all time...and both star the sickening lack-of-talent, butt ugly Andrew McCarthy. I've seen these two things a number of times, and each time, I lose a bit of self-respect.

i agree with munchien, obfuscate and sir rockaby.. a lot of those films aren't cheesy to me either. to me, a cheesy film is usually one that is also, arguably, a bad film. but you still like it. i would consider ET and BREAKFAST CLUB and FERRIS BEULERS great films.. but then i guess one could argue that all of them have some cheese in them.

guilty pleasure film: RED DAWN

it's the cheesiest concept, but i loved this film when i was a kid. and if it were on tv right now, i'd probably watch it. (ok, i own it on DVD)

Has anyone mentioned "Heathers"? I could recite lines from memory when I was a teenager. And I've seen "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" a few more times then I'd care to admit. Giant ants!
