TarTar posted the lyrics to "Got To Be Real." I adore
certain KC and The Sunshine Band songs (you know which
ones). What's your shameful favorite cheesy song?

I'll see "Time after Time" and raise ya.

How 'bout "Time"?

What's cheesier than Culture Club?

Mmmmmmm..... You're playing hard, Kathryn. But I have one secret weapon:

"Eternal Flame", classic version.

Could be better if I said Atomic Kitten cover, but it would be a lie.

Right you are, Whore. I am playing hard. And unlike you and Saddam Hussein, I have many secret weapons.

How about...

"Careless Whisper".

P.S. Re: Atomic Kitten -- You gotta go with the original because covers rarely capture the cheesiness!

I was going to say the Killers' Mr Brightside, because then my lame song wouldn't be so lame and I'd look cooler than you lot. But screw it, its a fine song.

But damned if it can beat Natasha Bedingfield - These Words. Best single of the year, bar none.

No, no. Atomic Kitten version smell is unbelievable.

I don't remember your last two songs. Maybe I'm too young for them

Obviously Rita has superior musical taste or the Portuguese music scene has shielded from the schlock the rest of us love.

Rita, what I mean is, what bad (usually pop) songs do you like and are ashamed to admit?

BillGoodman and Obfuscated aren't doing a good job, Rita, because California Girls and Voices Carry aren't horribly embarrassing songs. Nothing cheesy about the Beach Boys or Ms. Mann.

ColdHeartofstone, now there's someone who should be embarrassed. She likes a Rick Astley song. Now, that's cheesy.

The zenith (or the nadir? I always get those two mixed up) of my bad taste:

Do the conga by the Miami Sound Machine

and (so the francophones can mock me)

Dur, dur d'etre bebe

I like them both.

I don't know, really. I like her, but I think she is considered uncool in your country.

Chesney Hawkes' mole had a fan in my class.

--

But whenever, as scholars sometimes do, I turned my back on books, declaring them to be the graveyards of the language, and sought contact with the simple folk, I encountered the little cannibals who lived in our building, and after brief association with them, felt very glad to get back to my reading in one piece.

Wow this really hard because... in addition to listening to cool music like the Pixies also listen to cheesy stuff ... so i guess my vote goes to Danke Shane becasue I love it when in Ferris Buler's Day Off ... one of my favorite movies... Ferris lipsyncs the song...it was a funny scene.

Oh, I love the bit in Ferris where they're playing Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want with this dreamy synth part - I think it might be Dream Syndicate? Its when they're going round the galleries and stuff.

What about Tears for Fears? I really like "Shout." And "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." And "Mad World."

What about Nenah Cherry's "Buffalo Stance"?

Or Wall of Voodoo's "Mexican Radio"?

Or anything by Kraftwerk?

Oh yeah, "Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chopin.

To this day I still like "Billy Jean," "Beat It," and "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.

The Vangelis score to the film "Blade Runner." Yeah, I feel like a real cool cat driving down the street listening to that. (Vangelis did do the horribly cheesy "Chariots of Fire.")

That's about it for now, although I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Now you're learning how to do it, Rita. Your last one was absolutely cheesy.

Roxette - Joyride

Roxette was the first band I loved, when I was 11 or 12. If you want some scratched vinyls, mail me
